Most likely, you never notice the light bulb in your freezer or refrigerator until it is not working. Then it is time to replace the bulb. This is especially important with freezers, which are often in areas with poorer lighting, like basements or garages. Fortunately, the task is a simple one.
Instructions

1 Unplug the freezer to prevent an accidental shock when you remove the light bulb.

  • 2 Open the door of the freezer, look at the top inside edge of the freezer, below the door seal and back about 1 to 2 inches from the edge. You will see a small plastic or metal panel that protects the bulb from damage and shields your eyes from the direct light of the bulb when the door is opened. Reach behind the guard and remove the bulb by twisting it to the left.
  • 3 Put your new bulb in by inserting it into the socket and twisting it to the right to screw it in. Be sure you use a freezer bulb--it is built a little tougher and is the correct wattage. You can find them at appliance or hardware stores. Plug the freezer back in to test operation of the bulb.

  • Have a nice day! : ))

The light is not working in the Kenmore refrigerator. I changed the bulb but that didn't fix the problem

Could be the door switch, that is the most likely.
Other than that, use an electrical tester and test the socket itself. God bless your efforts.

How do I change light bulb in freezer

    Hello Joe;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

I would like to help you but you did not provide a refrigerator model number, which is on the fresh food section liner wall. replacement is different depending on your model number.

When you do change the light bulb, it is a special bulb, you may be able to find it in your local supper market, or have to go to your local Home Depot.

How to change light bulb in Kenmore refrigerator serial no. 4A31214613 ?

Open freezer and reach to the back of the plastic cover over the light. You'll feel a gap in the back center of the cover. Gently pull forward and the cover will drop down and pull to the back to fully remove it. Once you've removed the cover you can unscrew the bulb, which you can use to make sure you purchase one like it and most hardware stores, such as Ace or Home Depot. Reverse the removal instructions to install light and cover. Light should turn on once you've screwed it in.

How do I change the light bulb? I twist and pull but nothing happens. I have a Kenmore 106.72864100.

Is it the cover or the light bulb that isn't coming out? The cover for the 74889 needs to be pushed up and then pull it forward and down. It is hanging by a tab that holds until the angle of the cover is changed to a shallow angle relative to the back of the fridge. The light bulb should unscrew by turning it counterclockwise. If the bulb was previously overtightend, then you may need to use something to improve your grip on the bulb. I sometimes use the plastic jar opener sheets. If the bulb breaks, remove the remainder of the bulb from the socket with pliers (I use needle-nose or similar long straight blade pliers held open to the width of the butlb).

You should unplug the appliance while changing the bulb.

The manual for the Kenmore 74889 is available here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/5899/KENMORE-Top-Mount-Refrigerator-L0411041?brand_name_search=Kenmore+74889 . Other Kenmore manuals can be found by using the search engine here: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals .

    I hope this helps.

    Light bulb

Sounds like you got a defective bulb. Make sure it is for 120 volts or thereabouts....not 6 or 12.
