Hi Kanady.
Because of the nature of operation of this site, I don't know who you spoke with before ... Everyone you encounter at this site is a volunteer, working when they want and, well, not working when they want, from their home, shop or workplace. I don't know any of the other 14,000 plus question askers.
Im sorry you didn't get a suitable response and I don't know where the other question catcher sent you.
I have done a little research on this and I suggest you try here: http://appliances.lovetoknow.com/Salton_Replacement_Parts
I didn't see your product directly but believe if you send them a e-mail they will be able to assist you.
I suspect there is a problem with your safety interlock feature; something is not engaging allowing the device to power on.
Thanks for your question and good luck with your project.
Thanks for being a member ... let me how this progress's.
A
ops ... let me know how this goes ... thanks
Hi Jeannie ...
I was incorrect when I said there were 15,000 question catchers, there are more than 40,000 people around the world that volunteer at this web site according to the listing here: http://www.fixya.com/users.
We have a similar food processor ... and they are definitely a tool from the past, no doubt about that, probably no longer made. We would use ours if we could find it in the depths of the pantry! Still, there are parts for many obsolete tools, kitchen, shop, hobby, and garage. The thing is to find them.
The possibility of 'valeantudor' actually seeing your post in the normal course of business is very remote. You would have to seek him or her out just as he or she would have to seek you out. That is what the "Ask an Expert" tab is for, BTW. You could also click on his name directly.
When I clicked on this link: http://appliances.lovetoknow.com/Salton_... and clicked on this link on the left hand side of that page: " •Salton Products" ... I was taken to a page where there was a listing of appliance stores in my area which I could contact for Salton parts. I'm sorry that was not your experience.
My final suggestion is you seek out an appliance repair shop in your area, if there is one ... they are becoming fewer and fewer these days as more and more appliances are 'throw away'. If you can find one, the shop keeper can probably help you. He may have the parts or be able to make the parts or know where to get them. If you find this fellow, Please announce it here by attaching that information to this question.
Thanks for looking at the advertisements that accompanied my and the other question catchers comments. That pays the bills for the web site owner for sure. I'm sorry you didn't find satisfaction there.
I think I have answered your question the best I can. If you have other concerns or need more help that I can reasonably provice, please say so.
Thanks for your continued interest in FixYa.com
Hi again Jeannie. I think your latest course of action is your best bet, your local repair guy. If there is a fix, it will be from him. He has a lot of incentive to get your food processor repaired.
Regarding how the site works ... You are right up to a point. When you post a question, it appears in either the PAID section or the FREE section (or the local repair section - I rarely visit that page). There are others (a couple and up to hundreds of people) doing the same (posting questions) at the same time. Rarely do I refresh the page and find the same problem listed, having been replaced by new questions. Anyway, when you post a question, anyone seeing the question may 'grab' it and offer an answer. From then on, the question asker and the question catcher is informed of updates to that question. If I answer a question, I don't see it again unless. However, the question will remain on the list for others to view. If the question asker or someone else makes a comment, I get a notification of that event and I can go see the comment. The question is also tied to my account and I can go see the question and its rating and any "Testimonial" the question asker might have added. I can see how many times the question has been viewed, if any, and the rating of the answer. If you want to see my page, just click on my username.
In the paid section, only one question catcher can respond at a time. In the free section, every/anyone who wants to take a shot at it may do so.
It is a really interesting program from that stand point.
What is really interesting to me is when I was in the service, I knew a guy who was into computers. He got out and went to work for a software developer. Turns out, he works for the company that develops and deploys this very kind of software. He has worked on the Facebook and the Twitter software as well as other social site programs.
You must have some expertise in something ... maybe you should take a shot at becoming a "expert". It is a fun thing to do ... a real learning experience for me and you can make a little money from time to time. But - don't do it for the money! In all the time I have worked here I have yet to earn a "week's pay". If you sign up, tell them I recommended you ... there is a tiny stipend for me if you do.
There is a gardening category here as well as garcening tools and I believe there are personal care questions that come up from time to time. find a complete list at the main page.
Im sorry to hear you lost your husband ...
Look around here, you might find something intertesting.

Does it look like it "wants to start" but something is holding it?

Usually answered in minutes!
You asked if it felt like something was holding it. I don't think so. When I turn the dial to either pulse or on, nothing happens and it won't budge. I do feel as if it is locked somehow and I need to find how to unlock it. That is just an impression and may not be true. As you probably know, the booklet says if the bowl, blade and lid are not securely locked in place it will not start. That is why I was wondering about a new bowl. I also thought something may be wrong with the connection on the bowl that locks into the base. Thanks.
Thanks for your response to my email. The person I spoke to had as his ID valeantudor. His picture was there. He asked if the food processor start mechanism seemed to be blocked by something. I was answering his question.
The parts place was on the web page here, under small appliances and that is where I found the Salton food processor that looked like mine. The parts site was listed as having Salton parts and the URL is www.ApplianceParts.com. They did not carry Salton. I should have clarified that he did not send me there, but it is on your website. I thought he would see my response and know he didn't give me that.
Anyway, I feel I am rambling, but wanted to explain. The place you recommended doesn't have Salton either, but I tried to email them as you said. However, it seems the email address on their website, [email protected] is not valid and I could not send the email. I did some research on my own, and found the Salton model, like mine is no longer available, either. I may just have to give up and buy a new processor. Thanks. Jeanne
Hi, Thanks for your comments. OMG, I had no idea there were that many answering questions. No wonder I have always found answers. I just thought when someone answered your question they would also receive the reply and answer. guess i was wrong. I do have an appliance repair shop, here, that has been around for at least 25 years. I will ask him. I just didn't think about doing that. Thanks very much. Jeannie
Hi Milleraba, (If you do see this :o) ) Thanks for that information. I was not sure how this all works, but everyone has been so helpful and kind, including you, and I have always been able to find solutions to my problems. I am really glad to know about that. As to joning as an expert, I am not very mechanical. My husband (deceased) was, and always fixed everything around the house, from plumbing and electric items to even inventing ways to do things. I did learn a lot from him, though. About my only expertise is gardening, and nursing, but I have not worked for a while and that changes a lot in a short time. It does sound like fun, and I will give it some thought, though from what I see it is about repairing items. Thanks so much ! Jeannie
Thank you again. I will look at the categories. I guess now I need to accept the solution you gave me. That weill close me out, I suppose. It's been great conversing with you. Thanks
Jeannie
Yes, very helpful. I received great help as always and good suggestions. Thank you very much
