I have a Craftsman YS4500 lawn tractor with the recommended Snow blower attachment rinstalled. It seems to have a great deal of trouble starting in very cold weather.. It is getting gas as I can smell the familiar smell of gasoline. when I stop trying to start it.
I suspect that the ignition system is not producing a spark, since i do not even get a "Chug" when i spray starting fluid directly into the carburetor.
There are a number of interlocks on this tractor and i suspect that one of these is failing in the cold weather. Some of the interlocks on the starter, but these are OK since the starter grinds away just fine, just the engine will never fire if the temperagture is really cold. .will not fire and run...
now it is getting so that it wont even start at all with the machine in the sunshine all morning
First...check condition of the spark plug. You need to check it for spark. Remove the plug(s). Insulate your hand. and hold the plug with wire snapped on it against engine metal while turning it over. You need to see a good blue spark. You also need to check the condition of the air filter on the unit. Make sure it is clear. Try these things. Do you have the operators manual so we can investigate the "safety locks." and where they are located so maybe you can test them too? I need the 9 didgit model number of the tractor to get your manual. Did it start before you installed snow blade? Did you remove mower deck? If you removed mower deck you probably had to unplug blade safety switch. This is a plug in deal, look underneath and see if it is hanging, there is probably a place on the snow attachment to plug into,or you can jump around it by plugging a wire into each hole. (please note I am assuming it ran good before you installed the snow attachment).Hope this helps.
yes and they will also fit ayp, husqvarna and poulan riders as they are all built by the same mfg. just be sure to get the snow blower that is for your modle tractor
