Hi, Go to the Toshiba technical support website ( I just picked the one for Canada) and you may have to visit the equivalent site for your country or area. Anyway, enter the details of your laptop and click the [Go] button. You will be taken to a page where you click the button Product contents. On the page that will display, you will find everything that shipped with your laptop (hardware and software). If a disk writer software is included in the list and you did not get any, you can go back to the store where you bought it and ask for it.
your dvd may have power to open up so that you can insert the cd but the only possible thing that i can suggest is that the cable attached to your dvd may be damaged or try checking if your computer recognizes your dvd and if its not recognized... it may have problems on the cable or the hardware itself.
if the device is set up as a master and not a slave device it may be interfering with the hard drive. check the jumpers on the back of the device. If it's plugged into the same cable as the hard drive it must be a slave device. Otherwise, check your bios upon bootup to see if you it's trying to boot from the device instead of from the hard drive.
