My He4 starts to spin and makes a loud noise, like it's going to take off. I did check the level of the machine and it is good. It does appear that the nylon ring around the drum is melting. Is there anything I can do?

You may have to lift the lid and rebalance the wet clothes inside
make sure that the machine is level and the bowl supports or in good condition as an off level bowl will go to unbalance on start of spin
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them .
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them. If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

if you cant get into it through the back by removing the screws making sure you have unpluged it 1st then maybe you have to go in through the top this is sometimes the case in new models
Good morning! It's common to hear a loud thumping noise during spinning because the load (clothes) are not properly place in the tub. Please try to put the load in order & compress it down. best regards.
The following are the reasons for the drum not spinning :- * Test the lid switch * Test the timer control * Test the centrifugal switch * Test the water level switch * Inspect the motor coupler * Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only) * Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch) * Test the motor * Inspect the pulley * Test the transmission
In the case of loud noises in the machine, the drum bearings might have been damaged and might need a replacement. Also do check the leveling of the machine. Good luck.
GE WPXH214ACC Washer drum makes loud noise when spinning sometimes. We've had it since 2005 & never had this happen before. Washer is level, must stop & redistribute clothes to correct. Just started happening now.
