Ps2 will play ps2 dvd games but wont play dvd movies

Will play my Final Fantasy XII but won't play a dvd movie........however, it will play a burned dvd movie

    what is parnet settings? i think there is something wrong with the mechanics......ps2 doesnt even recognize dvd in and on another dvd i got it sounds like it is rotating off-kilter.....system makes funny noises sometimes.....i think i really need someone to look at it.

    ya sounds like you might need a new ps2 then goo luck finding anouther one of those you will have to upgrade to ps3 make sure you get the ps3 that can play ps2 game though have a good day

The problem can be with your scanning lens that might be dirty.Clean your PS2 lens first.Watch this video to learn how to clean PS2 lens.

Ps2 wont play DVDs
Your PS2 laser is wearing out. When the laser starts to go, first games will skip... then eventually the PS2 will stop reading DVDs altogether. If you keep using it to read CDs, it will eventually stop reading those too and the laser will die altogether. Here's a website that will help you identify your PS2 model, show you how to replace the laser, and they sell parts and do repairs too
