Replaced new drum unit but LCD keeps saying Drum Near End of Life

I have a Brother MFC-8460N and after I replaced it with a new drum, the LCD screen is still showing Drum Near End of Life.

Where can I reset the drum unit?

Thanks for your help!

I keep getting the message, "Toner error, replace drum unit". I have a MFC Brother 8460N. Jane

Have you replaced the Drum unit? Drum unit on Brothers can be reset if copy is good and you do not want to replace. If copy bad replace Drum. Rebuilt drums work as good as original at half price.

What does a belt life ends soon mean, on a brother MFC 9440ch color laser printer?

Are you sure of the error message? The Brother printers that I have used have Drum Ends Soon and Change Belt messages.

The Brother MFC-9440CN has a belt that can be replaced. The Belt unit has an life expectancy of ~50000 pages. The belt unit is part BU100CL and costs a bit over $150 at office supply stores. Amazon.com and some other stores have the unit for under $100. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-BU-100CL-HL-4040CN-HL-4070CDW-Series/dp/B000SC245E is one source.

When the unit says Change Belt Unit, follow the directions from the manual's maintenance section to replace the belt unit. See page 178 (page 189 of the PDF) http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/files/dlf/doc002252/mfc9440_usa_usr_b.pdf . You have to remove the Drum and then the Belt Unit. Then slide in the new Belt Unit and replace the Drum unit. Then close the printer and turn it on. Finally reset the counter from the Machine Info sub menu (press Menu 8 4 and select the Belt Unit and press OK. Then press 1 followed by Stop/Exit).

If you mean the Drum Unit, that is part DR-110CL and costs over $175 at the office supply stores. Order this part when the Drum End Soon message appears and replace it if the print quality deteriorates (or when you have the new drum). The Drum Life is ~17000 pages. The steps start on page 166 (182 of the PDF). You need to remove the old Drum unit. Then remove the toner cartridges from the drum. Prepare the new Drum Unit, including putting the cartridges in the new Drum. Then replace the Drum unit and reset the counter.

I hope this helps.

I just installed a new drum and toner cartrideg last week and the error message says drum is near end. Should the toner cartride be replaced?

Hi there,

After replacing the drum and toner you may need to reset the drum life of the machine. This is how to reset the drum life:
Open the front cover where the drum and toner are located. Press the clear/back key. Lcd should show Replace Drum? Then press 1 for yes. Lcd should show accepted. Close the front cover the press stop/exit. Lcd now should show the date and time.
Hope this helps. Rate if it works. Thanks

I have this model printer (brother mfc-7840W) and i'm getting an error on the screen-it says Drum Error. See troubelshooting and maintenance chapter in the user manual

If you have the manual follow the steps for trouble shooting.
It will tell you to remove the drum, remove toner, clean corona wire and reinstall. If that does not solve the issue it will recomend replacing the drum. You can check your drum life by going to menu- press machine info, choose option 3 drum life and press ok. This will show you the remaining percentage of your drum if the number shows less than 25% replace the unit.
If it shows more than 50% you can reset the drum counter allowing the machine to read it as a new unit.( Bare in mind this will change the usage meter back to 100%, you will have to keep an eye out for print defects or light pages as this will signal the end of the drum life) to reset page counter remove the drum from the machine, with the front door open press Clear/back until the lcd displays reset drum yes? no? press 1 for yes and reinstall drum. The machine will cycle until ready; if this still has not cleared the message you will need to contact brother for a manual reset or service.

What does it mean when it says Drum near end

Order a new drum, part number DR520, from an office supply store or Brother (http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/us/us/en/monolasermfc/mfc8460n_all/c_o/index.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc8460n_all&cao=dr ). The drum transfers the toner onto the paper and has a finite lifetime - approx. 25000 pages (1 page/job). Change the drum when the print quality decreases or the message changes to replace drum or drum end.
To replace, open the front cover and remove the drum and toner cartridge assembly (wait until the machine cools if it has been printing). Avoid the electrodes on the assembly. Hold down the lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit. Unpack the new drum and put the toner cartridge in the new drum (when it is locked the lever should lift automatically). Place the assembly back in the all-in-one. Do not close the front cover. Press Clear/Back on the control panel. The LCD should ask "Replace Drum?". Use the up/down arrows to select 1. Yes and hit OK. When the LCD shows "Accepted", close the cover.

I hope this helps.

Brother MFC 9440CN

You need to order the drum unit. It's different from the toners. You can replace it after the part comes in - you do not need a technicain to come in to do it for you. You can find the part from Amazon or Brother website.

MFC-8460N Drum Changed - cannot clear DRUM NEAR END message

This sometimes happen when you dont use genuine cartridges/drums, you can leave it flash just let everyone know to watch for changes in print quality since you will no longer have a warning for this drum. when its near its end.
