I have very recently purchased a 125/38" MTD. Not sure how old but appears in reasonable condition. I have used it for about total of 4 hours over past two weeks. Today I have a problem... the large belt driving the blades keeps disengaging as soon as I set the blade depth. I don't have a manual or much experience with ride ons so would appreciate any advice. By the way I have been careful when rewinding the blades onto the forward wheel not to place the pully over the two guide (?) pins. Also, when not engaged the pulley is very loose! Many thanks David

Hello,
My name is Dane and I am going to help you solve your problem. You said that the "Pulley" is loose when the blades are disengaged. I hope you meant that the belt is loose, because the pulley should never be loose. If it is loose, you should remove the pulley and make sure the KEY inside the center hole is still ok. Sometimes when the pulley gets loose it chews up the KEY and allows the pulley to turn on the crank. If the KEY is ok, just reinstall the pulley and tighten it.
I believe that your belt is probably just stretched and worn. The mower deck belt gets it's tension from lowering the mower deck. the lower the deck the tighter the belt. Just replace the belt. I hope I've helped! Thank you! Dane

Testimonial: "Hi Dane Thank you very much for taking the time to help me. You are quite correct, it is the belt that is loose and will replace. Thank you. David"

Mtd 42" riding mower rear drive belt keeps popping off pulley

Hi, check the idler pulley arm and return spring on that belt. Its most likely not pivoting freely allowing the belt to loosen when you operate the clutch, regards Phil.

The problem with these sets is you have to gamble.

If power outage, it is most likely on the power supply board-------only way to confirm this is test voltages to see if are there or not, do you follow me?

Fuses can look good but also need to be "tested".

1996 Honda Passport LX starter replacement

I HERE YOU BROTHER, I TYPICALLY DO ALL MY OWN WORK BUT THIS ONES FOR THE CERTIFIED MECHANICS. I ALSO LAID UNDER MY PASSPORT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT. I FINALLY WENT AND GOT A QUOTE FROM MY MECHANIC WHO I DO USE FROM TIME TO TIME. $137.26 JUST LABOR , I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED THE STARTER. BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT! I PICKED IT UP AND HE TOLD ME (GET THAT THING OUTA HERE JOKINGLY) IT ENDED UP TAKING HIM AND HIS CREW 6.5 HOURS TO COMPLETE THE JOB. MY MECHANIC HAS ALWAYS HELD TRUE TO HIS WORD SO I WAS CHARGED EXACTLY WHAT I HAD BEEN QUOTED. THEY BROKE OFF BOLTS , TORE UP TOOLS , AND EVEN HAD TO USE A CUTTING TORCH. MY ADVICE: GET THE LOWEST QUOTE FROM A GOOD MECHANIC , MAKE SURE THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR QUOTE AND LET THEM HAVE AT IT. HOPE THIS HELPS AND SAVES YOU A BIG HEADACHE!GOOD LUCK.
