I'm guessing during defrost cycle water drips on bottom of the coil and turn into ice after while build up thick ice clogging drain. What could be causing this problem and how I can fix it. In addition freezer build up some frost on articles in the freezer. I think is this some problem with defrost cycle or heating element but how I can check this and test it? Thanks

Thank you for your suggestion. After completely defrost about 24h drain was clear I checked all the vent, door seal everything seems OK. After turning refrigerator back on I have noticed building up little frost around draining hole (was look like small "crown" I'm guessing that is the only air leak in the freezer compartment) than was couple drops from evaporator turn into ice almost instantly. Now after tree days the drain is almost clogged. In addition after turning back the power the ice maker produced couple ice cube and seems now stop working. So now I have two problems one is building ice under evaporator causing clogging drain and the other one is no ice in ice maker. Appreciate for any suggestions. How I can check heating element? How often automatic defrost cycle turns on and how long is that cycle? (every 6-8 hours for about 18 minutes? - I'm not sure)

Check and replace thermistor located on top right corner of the freezer side, that will usually fix problem of yours. (notice that the thermistor is hidden under plastic track in the corner of your freezer side).

Why is there ice buildup in your freezer compartment?

Small ice droplets on the freezer walls and back panel are normal.

If frost is building up in the freezer compartment, check for the following:

  • Frost is likely to build if the door is left open for a period of time. Make sure the doors are closing completely and are not blocked by something between the door gasket and cabinet.
See also: Door not closing completely.
  • Is there frost buildup around the exterior doors or on the ceiling? See explanation below.
  • Is there ice stuck in the delivery chute (if applicable)? See explanation below.
Frost buildup around the exterior doors or on the ceiling
Frost buildup in these areas suggests an air leak, likely due to a gasket problem. The door gasket should seal all the way around on both doors. Make sure that nothing is between the gasket and cabinet when the door is closed.
if working correctly the automatic defrost should run properly again

GE side by side refrigerator model no TFG20JAWWW 627 litre is occasionally leaking water

Check the drip tray in the freezer section where defrost water drips from the defrost heater melting frost during the defrost cycle. If ice blocks the drain hole in the tray inside the freezer(usually behind the evaporator cover) the defrost water will travel into the bottom of the freezer & onto your floor. Some models also have a second evaporator in the fresh food section. A blocked drain or clogged defrost drain tube can cause the problem.

Kenmore refrigerator model 795

Hi,

This is a simple fix but will take a little time to correct this. First of all, empty the freezer of food and shelving, ice maker if you have it also. The back wall in the freezer is a false wall, so gain access by removing screws and harness from top left corner. By the way turn off the unit or unplug it!! Now at the bottom of the unit far back you will see an ice glassier in the bottom middle is a drain hole that all the water is to exit after defrost. Well because its blocked with ice the water overfills and leaking into the refer section. Make sure you can use hot water to clear this out but make sure you cleaned out the entire drain system before reassembling this to restore cooling. Once clear you problem is solved.

Good Luck

Ice forming on bottom of freezer with water leaking out from under

I'm guessing the drain from the freezer defrost pan (below the freezer coil) is clogged and overflowing into the bottom of the box. You'll have to turn off an defrost the freezer, then remove the sheet metal on the back to expose the coil. Try pouring some water into the drain pan and if it backs up, use a fine wire like a sewer snake to clean it out.

Frigidaire Fridge (frt045gm) Not Cooling Well

Bonjour,
That's not a potentiometer you turned it's the defrost timer gear knob. What you were doing is aborting the defrost cycle and allowing frost or ice to build up on the freezer coils. It built up enough to clog the airflow and the temperature in the freezer started going up. The compressor seems to be operating normally.
Follow along through a defrost cycle
To start defrost the defrost timer stops the compressor and all fans. Next it turns on the defrost heater. This melts the ice/frost off the freezer coils. The water drips down the drain line to the drain pan under the unit. If the defrost heater raises the temperature too high the defrost termination thermostat turns the heaters off. When the defrost timer times out it turns off the heaters and turns the compressor and fans back on. If the drain line clogs with food the water does not drain out and when the compressor starts again the water freezes. If this keeps happening the ice gets higher and bigger until it clogs the coils and the freezer does not get cold. If the defrost termination thermostat turns off the defrost heaters too soon all the frost is not melted from the coils. And the coils soon clog and the freezer gets too warm. If the defrost heater is bad no frost gets melted off the coils and the airflow quickly gets clogged. No defrost usually means either a bad defrost timer, a clogged drain line, a bad defrost termination thermostat or bad defrost heater. You can take a chance and replace the defrost timer. If that's the only problem your back in business. OR
If the drain line is not stopped up you can try this.
Remove all food from freezer and refrigerator, open the doors and unplug the cord. Wait 24 hours for all the frost/ice to melt. Keep the doors wide open and the cord unplugged the whole time. If the drain pan fills with water that's a good sign that the drain line is not clogged. Empty the drain pan often to keep water off the floor. After 24 hours the drain line should have stopped dripping water. If it's still dripping wait until it stops. Plug the cord back in, close the doors and wait for 1/2 cup of water to turn to ice in the freezer. Then you can put the food back in. The problem will return if the unit is not defrosting. Changing a defrost timer is not too hard. Unplug the cord. Locate the defrost timer. Take out the mounting screws and remove the part. Unplug the wires, plug them into the new part and remount it. Don't forget the ground wire if it has one.
Plug the cord back in and see what happens. If you did not defrost the unit turn that timer knob very very very slowly until you hear the compressor stop. Then wait to see if the drain line is dripping water into the drain pan. If it is your in business. If not either the drain line is clogged, the defrost heater is burned out or the defrost termination thermostat is bad and has the defrost heater shut off.
OR Or you can call a service technician.

WATER IS COLLECTING ON SHELVES-LOST MANUAL-DOES IT HAVE A DRIP PAN UNDERNEATH

Your defrost is working - but the drain tube is clogged. It may be debris causing the clog - but more than likely it is ice.

Access the drain tube and defroster behind the back wall of the freezer. Remove built up ice on the floor of the freezer and the drip tray under the freezer coil and defroster coil. Don't use any sharp tools! Locate the drain tube at the low point of the drip tray. Attempt to clear it of ice by using a turkey baster (or the like) filled with hot water. Direct a stream of hot water from it into the drain tube. Ice may be an inch or two thick in the tube. Once the ice is clear, water should flow easily and quickly down the tube to the drip pan under the fridge - where it will be evaporated away.

To prevent the ice from forming in the drain tube in the future, hang some metal wires (preferably copper) from the the defrost coil down into the drain tube. Make the sure the wire is long enough so that it extends at least as far into the drain tube as the ice had clogged. The metal wire conducts the heat from the defroster down into the drain tube - thus preventing ice from forming - and clogging the drain. Use copper or aluminum wire if you can - steel coat hanger wire can be used if you can't find any copper or aluminum, but it will rust. Copper electrical wire # 14, # 12 or even # 10 is ideal, but the thicker the wire is the harder it is to work - it may be easier to use 3, 4 or more pieces of the smaller # 14 gauge wire instead of 1 or two pieces of # 10.

This worked for me and will probably work for you, too. If this was helpful, please rate my answer "4 thumbs up" - thanks!

Samsung Fridge Freezer leaking water

hi August.
Cause: A blocked defrost drain is one of the most common causes of water leakage. This happens when food particles or other debris clogs up the drain hose, which can lead to ice buildup and, eventually, water leaking out of the freezer and refrigerator.
3 common refrigerator problems you can easily fix yourself

The freezer drain hose will drain the defrost water into a drip pan at the bottom of the freezer. When this pan becomes full, it will leak water onto the floor. This is a regular maintenance task whenever the freezer defrosts. Empty the drip pan during the defrost cycle.
How to Fix Water Leaking From the Bottom of Freezer

Why is my fridge leaking water on the floor? If the refrigerator is leaking water it's possible that the refrigerator has a clogged or freezing defrost drain. If the defrost drain freezes the defrost water will overflow the drain and drip down to the bottom of the compartment, If enough water accumulates in the bottom it can run out onto the floor.

Ice build up in my frost free upright freezer

I looked at the BACK at the bottom underneath of my Sears Kenmore frost free upright freezer and what was causing the ice buildup was very simple. At the factory, the assembler looped the little hose too high and when the water went into the hose it could not get out due to being too high in one spot! An ice dam will form, blocking ALL water coming through
and freezing up any more water coming down giving you a HUGE wad of ice that is scary!!! I just removed the screw holding the loop that holds the hose and put a bit of warm water down the little hole on the INSIDE (Behind the grate) to melt the remaining ice in the tube. You need to take out 4 screws and remove the grate to see this. I could not believe that this was the problem! I haven't had any ice build up since. Now don't tear your freezer apart before you try this trying to fix the compressor, thermostat etc. It may be the only thing wrong with it!
