Our LG is giving us the te error code again. Can the thermistor be replaced by my husband? Is it a part we can order and take care of ourselves? We live in a small town and can't find an appliance repair place to help us. Really don't want to haul the machine somewhere. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the tip regarding flipping the machine on its side. I was about do the lengthy process of disassembling the front and I tipped the machine over instead. Lo and behold, there was the problem in plain sight right away -- the wire to the thermistor had simply come off the connector! I restripped the tip of the wire and crimped it back on the connector, problem solved. Didn't even need a new part!
What make and model machine do you have? I am thinking it is not an LG Tromm? I have an LG Tromm model # WM2688HWM and when I lifted the front of the machine to look under, there wasn't any accessible area that I could see that wouldn't still require removing the front. from all the diagrams and info I have found, the thermistor on my model is in the front. If you have the same or similar machine, would you mind telling me on which side did you turn it over and exactly where you were able to access this? thanks
It's the LG Tromm model # WM2677HWM, not sure if they've changed thing that much. The bottom of the machine is completely open and the themistor curved metal chassis
I meant to say the thermistor is attached to the curved metal chassis
By the way that connector is really bad, It has come off several times. After doing this repair four times I have come to a conclusion that the wire is too short, causing tension and pulling on the connector. I have since soldered an extension wire and have not had any further problems.

Yes - repeated tE error solved by simply making sure the connections to the thermistor are tight. I had repeated tE error codes - my wife called service, and when the service man I told him I thought that the tE was a thermistor error...he said "this machine (WM2455HW) doesn't have a thermistor - it is all solid state". It sounded suspicious to me ... and then he "placed his hands on the machine" (claiming that it wouldn't reset by the button combination) and pronounced that we'd need a $290 control board (you can get them for $155 at Sears) and $170 labor + tax.
All of this just didn't make sense to me since 1) a thermistor IS a solid state device, 2) an intermittent problem is RARELY a problem with the solid state electronics (though occasionally, components can overheat and fail intermittently), 3) everything I'd read suggested the tE indicated a thermistor error...and 4) intermittent errors are OFTEN caused just by poor connections on electronic devices.
Well, I dug into the machine, found a thermistor (clearly labeled on the wiring diagram inside the machine), tipped the machine on its back to get access to the thermistor, unplugged the connector to the thermistor and pulled it out of the rubber grommet that anchors it to the wash drum. Then I squeezed the connectors on the female plug end to make a tighter connection and reconnected everything. I then opened the main control board and unplugged all plugs and reconnected them in case there was a bad connection to the main control board.
Guess what - everything works fine now - NO PARTS - and yes, there was a thermistor in the washer (the service man wasn't correct in saying there was no thermistor).
I am concerned that this may be a real scam. Certainly it could be that the service man comes out, says it is a control board, charges for a control board and in fact replaces the board even though it is still good. Taking the old (and new-appearing) control board to the next house where the same claim is made. They can pocket the $290 and the service call.
I probably would not be so cynical about this except for the fact that the service man specifically contradicted what I said about suspecting a thermistor problem and told me specifically that there was no thermistor in this washer (my wife witnessed this).
How can you trust the service folks anyway?
I did the same (flipped on back) but just cleaned and replaced my thermistor...no more "tE" code! It easily pops out and back into place. Very easy!
I do not htink its the thermistor, but the connector thats keeps coming loose during use, it only has to break connection for a second. Had the Main board replaced, thermistor and still tE code.. Squeezed the connector with a pair of needle nose and reattached, tE gone.
My Thermistor has just went bad also. After pulling the lid and finding it location-to my surprise all I had to do is flip washer on its back, the bottom of the washer cabinet is open and pull the thermistor out it is in rubber grommet and easily pulls out Now I cannot find one to order
Treegirl,
It's not an easy job to do.
You will need to remove the top panel, then remove the control panel and then the front panel to gain access to the thermistor. The part is not available to the public and requires an authorized service tech from LG to take care of this problem. You will need a special tool to remove the front door seal spring clamp.
But you can call customer service @ 800 243 000 and see if they can transfer you over to parts. Just give them the model and serial # and see if they would be willing to sell you the thermistor part. You will also need the door seal spring clamp removal tool to make the job easier.
What city do you live in??
Good luck.
I was getting the same te error on my 4-5 yr old washer. I decided to flip the machine on its back as others suggested. Before doing this, I disconnected the two water hoses and noticed that the hot water hook up was jam packed with sand/sediment. I cleaned out all of the sediment and then proceeded to flip the machine over and have a look. I pulled out the thermistor and everything looked ok with no loose wires. I've just reconnected all of my hoses and started a load of laundry on warm/cold. I am hoping that my problem was caused by the clog in the warm water hook up. I should know shortly.
I need to replace the water valve, how do you get the top off
Found one through LG distributor is ten bucks

Thanks! We live in Port Townsend, WA. I'll call LG and see what they say and call some more repair places in nearby bigger towns. I appreciate your help!
exactly same problem, less than 2 years old.
Boss lady very upset.
Lots of $$ for these appliances.

Hi Cooltech and guests,
I found the parts. Ordered the part and the door seal spring clamp removal tool from Andrew's Electronics (800/289-0300) LG wouldn't sell them to me, but gave me the part numbers and Andrew's number. Now, to fix it.
Anybody have a detailed description to offer on how to get to the part? I did read the one from guest, but would like another description, too, if possible. Do I not need the tool? Do I access it from the bottom of the washer? Any help is appreciated. This is going to be a pain since the dryer is stacked on the washer inside a closet!!
Thanks a lot!
