Hello Melissa;
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.
There are several areas to check:
1.) Poor air flow - Your blower will not turn on if you are plugged up with lint. On the back of you dryer is a hot air distribution manifold. There are several screws to remove this manifold. In the bottom small section is where it gets plugged up.
Remove the manifold and clean it.
2.)
Manifold High Temperature Thermostat - The is a high temperature thermostat mounted on the hot air distribution manifold. This may be bad. Disconnect power.Remove the thermostat.
Every household should have a multi-meter. They are only about $25.00 @ home depot or Lowes. This tool will save you hundreds of dollar in service calls on all of your appliances.
Set your multi-meter on the lowest Ohms (Omega Symbol). Put leader one contact on one contact and the other leader on the other contact. If the thermostat is good you will get a reading of '0'.
Anything other than that the thermostat is bad.
3.) Electric Heater High Temperature Thermostat - On the out side housing of your electric heater is another high temperature switch.
This is inside of your dryer. Mounted on the electric heater housing.
Ok, you Ohm this out as described above.
4.) Electric Heater - you have two contacts on you electric heater. Use your multi-meter to Ohm the heater out. There are two contacts. You should get a reading of '0'.
Ok. Your heater is bad. You can try to repair. The coil springs will separate. You can take a straight wire connector, strip the rubber from the connector, see if you can crimp the broken wires together.
