The answers above by Kerry Littleton have nothing to do with our calipers. The answer above by Bob Pulver is well-intentioned but doesn't address the real issue.

The real issue is the ORIGIN button is little-used and a bit reluctant to "make". The solution is to use a blunt plastic probe to REALLY PUSH down the button and hold it. The caliper will reset to zero.

SOURCE: i have a mitutoyo digital

Sounds like the new battery you installed is no good. Is the display also dim? When the battery is low that is one of the results on the Mitutoyo. Do you have another battery to try in it?

There should be a zero reset button to re zero it for accuracy. Close the jaws - reset - start again.

SOURCE: How do I change the battery in my Mitutoyo digital?

The battery compartment is on the front of the instrument. The cover is round and has some symbols that resemble arrows pointing down. Slide the round cover down to access the battery.

The face on my dial calipers is turned 90 degrees to match up to 0. How do I adjust it to be correct and readabel?

There should be a small set screw you can loosen by hand and adjust the face of the dial to zero with the jaws closed....this is typical of most calipers...it allows you to zero the dial on a given thickness of material and only read variations based on that thickness.
Take care.

My caliper is .030 off of zero I don't know how this happened . How can I fix this problem

Just loosen the screw that clamps the dial in place, close the jaws, and turn the dial to zero. Then tighten the screw clamp

I zero my caliper and go out an inch and then close and it is rea

The dial and needle are not aligned properly. I have several calipers (all vernier) which were past down to me from my father. Some are almost 75 years old and still measure +/- 1000th! I'd go out and get a good old fashioned caliper.

How to adjust Mitutoyo 505-101 caliber

You don't. What you did to adjust zero is what you do to adjust zero. Do not "go inside to adjust the dial". If the dial reads zero when the jaws are shut there is no problem.
