I HAVE A GE SIDE BY SIDE MODEL #GSS25JFMD AND THE REFRIGERATOR PORTION WILL NOT STAY COLD-THE FREEZER WORKS FINE. THE REFRIGERATOR WILL COOL DOWN IF THE DOOR IS LEFT CLOSED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME BUT ONLY TO THE 60-48 DEGREE RANGE AND THAT IS WITH THE FRIDGE BEING SET AT THE MAXIMUM COOLING OF 9. I HAVE CLEANED THE COILS, THE COMPRESSOR IS WARM/HOT, THE FAN NEXT TO THE COMPRESSOR DOES TURN ON AND THERE IS A GOLD COLORED TUBE WRAPPED UP IN BACK THAT DOES GET COLD TO THE TOUCH. PLEASE HELP-I REALLY CANNOT AFFORD TO CALL IN A REPAIR MAN IF NOT NECESSARY. THANK YOU.
Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if
there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not
defrosting as it should.
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice
melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if
is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above
items. If it still has a problem then it might be the compressor and you should
probably replace the machine.
Evaporator fan in the freezer working? Any frost on the freezer back wall?
Some common trouble makers.... http://www.applianceaid.com/frig_notcold.html
let it defrost long enough. Or is it possible the defrost unit is malfunctioning
One way to tell...access the cooling coils ( evaporator ) in the freezer and let us know what you see....

HI,
It's stopped completely
First,
check to see if the light comes on or if there is any fan, motor, or
other sound coming from the appliance? If so, the refrigerator isn't
really completely stopped--go to the specific problem you are having.
If not, try adjusting the thermostat to a colder setting. If that
doesn't work, read on.
Second, check to see if there is power
getting to the refrigerator. To do that, plug a lamp or other device
into the same outlet the refrigerator is plugged into. If there's no
power, check the fuses or circuit breakers. If the fuses or breakers
aren't the problem, contact a qualified electrician to restore power to
the outlet.
If there is power to the appliance but it still seems to be stopped, there may be a problem in one or more of these:
Unfortunately,
we can't describe all of the possible problems and repair solutions

need to contact a qualified appliance repair technician.
It's not cool
If the refrigerator isn't cool, you need to answer some questions, then see if the compressor is running.
First, answer these questions:
Next, see if the compressor motor is running
The
compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's
on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it
is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still
not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of
several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified
appliance repair technician for further help.
If the compressor is not running but you do have power to the refrigerator, there may be a problem with one or more of these:

THE LIGHT IN THE REFRIGERATOR DOES COME ON WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN. THE COMPRESSOR IS HUMMING AND IS WARM/HOT TO THE TOUCH. THE WALL OUTLET IS WORKING.
