I have installed household water filter that I no longer need internal water filter for the fridge. Is there a way to use water and ice without water filter?
I tried to remove the filter then the water leak through the hole. :(
Thanks.

The effort it would take to eliminate filter would be too much. Just leave filter in place. If new house filter is working right you should never have to replace fridge filter and your water will be double-filtered :)

No Water going in to the fridge

Hi Norm,

Most fridges don't need a motor to run in order to dispense water. A simple on / off solenoid on the water line (same for the ice maker) that makes a click when changing from off to on and on to off is usually all anyone hears (the ice maker makes rumbling sounds and you can hear ice falling into the bin - too).

Check for ice. If it has a maker and it is making ice, the problem could be a defective water dispenser switch, solenoid or other circuit component or wire. If no ice, I'd suspect a filter or water supply issue.

Make sure the filter is fully inserted and twisted into place. Many filters have marks to align when 1) inserting and 2) to let you know when it is installed correctly. When sure it is installed correctly - try to dispense water again. Many fridges will dispense water without a filter. Check your manual before trying this though! If not working still, remove the filter and try to dispense water. If you're able to dispense water, the problem is either the installation of the filter or the filter itself. Try to re-install it correctly. Try to dispense water again.

If it still doesn't work - call the plumber back and ask why there's no water. Or - try this yourself:

Locate the point of attachment to the domestic water supply that the plumber used. There should be a valve to turn the water on and off. If off, turn ON. Try to dispense water again.

If that doesn't work - check to see if the fridge has pinched, kinked or crushed the water supply line. You may need to move the fridge forward to gain access to the water line and connection point on the fridge. Repair or replace the line as needed and route in such a way that moving the fridge in or out will not cause it to damage the line again.

Good luck!

We are contemplating buying a samsung fridge However we currently have a whirlpool with the water filter on it. How would we disconnect the water filter currently installed to connect a new samsung fridge?

I'm not sure I understand your question, so forgive me if I'm incorrect. I'm confused as to wether your whirlpool has an internal filter or if you have an external stand-alone unit.

I have a samsung refridgerator and the water filter is inside the fridge located at the back on the upper right. In fact, all Samsung RAF/AES models come with this internal filter. Depending on where you buy it, often times the delivery guys will set it up for free. They will simply disconnect your old fridge, remove it , reconnect the water hose to your new Samsung and be on their way.

If you choose to do it yourself, simply remove the old fridge, follow the hose to under your sink and remove the old one. Run the new house by attaching it to the appropriate place on your sink and over to the back of the fridge. Also, many modern homes have a cold water tap behind the fridge, so you might be able to connect it there if you do.

Either way, whether you have an external unit or inyernal hose

Where is the water filter located and how do i replace it.

The water filter is located in the fresh food or fridge side of the appliance, at the rear - in the upper right hand corner.

steve_con_8.jpg

To change the filter, open the fridge door, clear the top shelf and grasp the filter. All that is needed is to turn the filter to the left about a 1/4 turn for it to drop down. A few drops of water may spill onto the shelf. To install a replacement, remove the protective cover (shown as a red cap above), and position under opening for filter. Gently push upward while turning the filter to the right. The filter will pop in, and as you turn about 1/4 of the way around, it will be drawn up a small amount until seated. At this point it will no longer turn any further.

More info about the filter is below (taken from the manual).

The water "Filter Indicator" light

• "Filter Indicator" light lets you know when it is time to change your water filter cartridge. The light
will change from green to orange. This tells you that it is almost time to change the current cartridge.
It is recommended that you replace the cartridge when the light changes to red. (see "Install the water filter" section for more information)
• If you install water filter, throw away the first six glassfulls of water filter, or until water flows clearly to flush impurities in the water supply system.

Using the dispenser without the water filter

• You can not use the water and ice dispenser without a water filter cartridge because the water line
blocks at water supply.
Ordering replacement filters
• To order more water filter cartridges, call 1-800-SAMSUNG and ask for accessory Part # DA29-
00003A or contact your authorized Samsung dealer.

I have a GE MWF water filter that is dripping water into the refrigerator. Fridge is about 8 yrs old and have changed many of the MWF water filters. 1st time with this problem.

Many times fines from these filters become dislodged and plug up the filter housing. If you have the bypass plug for the filter, install it and run a couple gallons of water through fridge to flush the system completely. The install the filter again. Make sure none of the water lines feeding fridge are pinched or kinked and valve is on all the way.

Bad tasting water

Do not use a steel or plastic braided supply line. They make the ice taste bad.

Need to change the water filter on my Sub Zero 690

Hello. The factory indicates your unit required an in-line water filter if your plans were to use one, or the installers added it. There was no indication of an internal filter in the fridge itself. If there was it should be easy to see or find. However this can be good news for you also as your filter (if installed) migt be easy to find and access behind or near the fridge if installed well and a good quality but common form of water filter you can easily replace may have been used, if installed. Otherwise if you have whole-house water filtering already they may not have added any further filtering.

If you can contact who installed your 690 they should be able to tell you where they installed it and what type. If not just have someone follow your water line to the fridge unit, and see what turns up as you make your way along to the place where water connects to the fridge.

Water dispenser no longer dispenses water. Ice maker still works

Has it stopped completely or just slowed to a trickle. If a trickle you need to replace the filter. If stopped either the feed line to the fridge has been pinched/shut off or the internal line has frozen, or the valve is no longer functional.

Filter light on refregerator

You don't need the filter if you have city water or if you you prefilter or have pretreated water. Take it out and the fridge will operate normally. I took mine out last year based on advise from a tech and no problems since (actually works better and makes better ice)

I need to bypass a filter in RS267LASH Samsung refrigerator

From the Samsung Online FAQ for my RF266AASH

Can I Use the Water Dispenser Without a Water Filter? spacer.gif The water and ice dispensers will work without an AquaPure water filter installed. The water filter housings are designed as rotary valves that allow the water to bypass the water filter whenever there is no filter or the filter is not in the lock position.
Models designed for use with the AquaPure water filter are shipped with a cap in place to cover the opening and keep it free of debris prior to the installation of the water filter. It is not necessary to have this cap in place for the unit to bypass the water nor is it intended to plug the housing to prevent leaks.
Note: This does not apply to the Quatro Convertible models. The filter must be installed on this model.

Amana fridge water filter squealing

I would suggest that you put the new water filter back in and try dispensing water for about ten minutes. If there is still a high pitched noise then you could try bleeding the water line at different points along the water circuit (with control over the incoming supply). The fact that you are forcing water through the tank should normally resolve any air locks. The water filter could also be bled of air. Hope this is of some help.
