I have a MacBook running OS X 10.5.8
It is not reading my PNY Optima SD HC 4gb card using a GE SD/MMC Card reader (97931 rev. 1).
I ran system profiler, and it just shows up as "mass storage device"
It is an old card reader, will a new card reader work?
I had no problem transferring pictures directly from the camera using the cameras usb cord. I've lost the cord and need a way to retrieve the pictures from the card. Thanks for you help.

It is not...
Most likely i.m.o. your 4Gb card is a SDHC card. Only a few 4 Gb cards are made as SD in the beginning after they crossed the 2 Gb line. You can't buy them anymore. So to use a 4 Gb ore more, you need a SDHC or better a SDXC reader.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
I am not an expert on such matters. It is possible the printer won't read the SD card because it wasn't formatted before use or was formatted by a computer using 64 bit software instead of 32 bit.
You could try using a card reader and downloading the images to your computer and printing from there.
(WARNING: After running this low level format tool, the whole USB flash disk surface will be fully erased. Therefore, data restoration will be impossible after using this utility!)
Dear Sir,
If you have a card reader connect your SD HC to the card reader.then connect it to your pc then, open picasa click on import or browse then select your card reader is a source, then click ok,it will starts to import all the pic from SD card to your picasa album.
i think it solves your problem, if you have an query post a feed back, we will glad to assist you
Is it a 4Gb micro sdHC? The 4 GB and above are all HC (High Capacity), and can only be read by HC reading devices. If you can see them at all, they will report some foolish size which yours is doing. They use a different protocal so they can not be read by a reader which is not HC. So what you need to do is get a HC capable reader.
Youll have to get updates for your laptop card reader or get a new one which may have to be installed. Another method you may want to try would be to put the card back into the device you used it in and then hook the device up to the computer, most likely through the USB slot....good luck
