Gas Trimmer will not stay started

I just pulled out my Ryobi Gas Trimmer from winter storage and when starting, it will start on Full Choke, and sometimes will run on Half Choke, but when I move it to Run or pull the trigger it quits running. I put new gas and mix in it... What can this be??? Please help.. Dano My trimmer will start o.k on full choke, but when I run on half choke it will die out unless I put backon full shoke. It will run if I keep it halfway between full and half choke which I did with tape.

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

I've seen this with chainsaws, lawn mowers, and dirtbikes also.

I have a Ryobi S430 4 stroke Weed Eater Trimmer. How many times do i pump the choke (primer) to start cold?

chokes are an obstruction placed over the inlet to increase the vacuum in the carby and cannot be pressed
Primer bulbs are used to suck fuel through the diaphragms to expell all of the air in the system to allow starting
normally press the primer bulb until it is full of fuel
apply the choke and pull until it fires
remove the choke and at full throttle pull until it starts

Can't get my Ryobi CS30 trimmer started, bought a new spark plug, still won't start. It worked fine last summer, took it out for the first time today, won't start, has plenty of fuel

Is the fuel old or has it been drained and refilled?? Sometimes old fuel will do this. Also make sure the air filter is clean and free of oil/dirt as this will also hinder the starting.

The primer button also is something to check. Push it 7 times, full choke, pull for 5 times, turn to half choke, and the unit should start.

Let me know,

It wont start

First, make sure that the gas mixture is correct (gas and oil mixed in the right proportion). Next, press the primer bulb 3-4 times, turn the choke lever on to Full Choke, and pull the starter cord until the engine seems like to wants to start, but dies. Next, switch the choke lever to Half Choke and start the gas trimmer, giving it gas by pulling on the trigger. Once it has warmed up fully, you may be able to reduce the Half Choke to No Choke, although my 20+ years of experience with dozens and dozens of models tells me that many trimmers run better, although smoking slightly, when you keep them at Half Choke. One last tip, when pulling the cord, try pushing the trimmer away from you with the opposite hand at the exact same time that you are pulling the starter cord--the equal and opposite push-pull technique may sound like something from karate (and it is, in a way), but it is really helpful when trying to start trimmers. Best of luck, Bill

PS: Check you owner's manual (at home or online) for the proper gas/oil mixture. Empty any old gas out and replace the spark plug, if required.

Gas Trimmer will not stay started

Have a similiar problem with a John Deere trimme (T 105C) and was told by the dealer that it is a carburator problem and would need to be replaced. Cost of the part is $105.00 plus labor. Not worth it to pay to buy the part & have it repaired. Good luck.

Problem with gas trimmer staying started

Carburetor is out of adjustment. there are two carb adjustment screws on the side of the Carb. they require a special tool that is only $5 from your local mower repair dealer. those screws are the idle and Hi speed mixture adjustments. the carbs on Ryobi are set too lean. turn counterclockise to richen the mixture. just turn one eigth of a turn at a time. start w the hi speed.
