Windows 98 SE supports USB 2.0. The original Windows 98 (gold) or Windows 98 OEM or Windows 98 Upgrade versions which are not SE will not support USB 2.0. Nor is there any way to get USB 2.0 support for these Windows 98 versions unless you upgrade to Windows 98 SE.

Note that the Windows 98 SE upgrade CD will fail upon completion, leaving the SE Upgrade with a corrupt registry, if you try to run the Windows 98 SE Upgrade CD on a Windows 98 system that has a version of IE installed which is higher than IE 4.

I bought jet flash 500 pendrive model TS4GJF500 I HAVE USE WIN 98 MY PEN DRIVE IS NOT DETECTED WHAT CAN I DO PLEASE GIVE ME A SOLN

Hi..

Windows 98 does not support Plug n Play Devices. So you have to download appropriate drivers from Microsoft Website. Though Windows 98SE ( Windows 98 Second Edition ) thought to be support USB Mass Storage Drives fairly, these drivers are not pre-installed with OS. You have to download Service packs to install these drivers.

Since Windows 98 have TWO versions, we have to download corresponding service packs .

You can
Download Service Packs for Windows 98 Here

Download Service Packs for Windows 98 SE (Windows 98 Second Edition) Here

To Know how to install these, please click on

You can find more details about this issue on this page

Thank You.

I have windows 98 can i download songs to my mp3 trio

The MP3 player uses a USB cable to download music files from the computer. Windows 98 does not support USB port even if the computer has a USB port. If the computer has a USB port then you need to install a Windows 98 USB driver so it can connect with the MP3 player to download mp3 music files.

Installing the drivers system98.gif Before installing the drivers, it is important to know that there are 2 main versions of Windows 98, and they both handle USB differently. You must install the appropriate version of the drivers dependent upon your version of Windows 98. In order to determine your Windows version, please do the following:
  • Right click on My Computer and select Properties
  • On the System Properties page that opens up click on the General tab, if it is not already on that page.
  • Under the System heading, look for the version number (see right)
    • Version 4.10.1998 is the original version of Windows 98 (98FE)
    • Version 4.10.2222 is Windows 98 Second Edition (98SE)
