Almost nothing is supported on Win 2000 because it had shuch a short life span. most new tech made in the last 2-3 years only runs onXP or Vista. Every once in a while some will work back to 98.
p.s. did it say it was compatable with 2000? look on the box

I would be very concerned that the drive may be failing, and make copies of anything important.
Is the external drive full? Go to My Computer and right click on your external drive and click on properties and it will tell how much is free and used. 90% is very full. Check all your hard drives while you are at it.
You should go to the website of your hard drive maker and download a diagnostic utility to check the health of your hard drive. It will be on the website under support. This must be run from bootable floppy, bootable usb, or bootable cd.

Of chechked and/or done all of the the above but my SimpleTech 160gb Ext Drive is not recognized at atll (not even in Disk Mgmt or Device Mgr) but it has power. It works just fine in my new laptop. So the problems is obviously the older Toshiba w/WinXP. The product has not CD and is no longer being supported my company. What else can I do?

Try connecting the drive to a different computer, to see if your computer is the problem.
If necessary, open the external case, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter.
Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive in some computer, to see if the disk-drive itself still can be accessed.
If not, and you have "important" data on the disk-drive, search the Internet for a professional "Data Recovery Service" -- you ship your disk-drive to them, pay them a lot of money, and they repair the disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your files to a brand-new disk-drive.
