The bimetal thermostat embedded inside your ice maker is what tells the water control valve to open on rear of refrigerator near floor where the water supply enters the refrigerator. That water valve has two sides. One for the water dispenser and other for ice maker. I will try to make this simple and in my words because Whirlpool now owns Maytag and its related brand names. They do not allow me to provide the service manual any longer so I need to place my on work here. Even with what I believe is the problem you may have a technician or someone that is comfortable working with electricity test the dual water control valve on back and near floor.
Test for continuity and resistance on both sides with power disconnected from dual water control valve. Both sides should show very close to the same amount of resistance. Use care testing water control valve because of the risk of shock especially if wet. Click Here=>

Number 13 in that photo is the Ice Makers thermostat Part Number=> Pin Style Icemaker Thermostat 627985
The dual Water Control valve is Part Number=> 61005626 Dual Water Control Valve
Another way of testing ice maker is to fill with tap water and turn on. If ice freezes and drops then the dual water control valve needs to be replaced. If not working then you have two options and that is a complete Ice Maker Assembly Part Number=> D7824706Q or replace parts.
