If your pool pump is acting sluggish it may simply be a build up of debris inside the impeller. Cleaning it is simple if you know how.
Step 1 - Check the Impeller

You can check the impeller for clogs by opening the clear cover that is on the strainer basket. Then place your garden hose into the basket and turn it on high. The water should disappear immediately. If it does not, you may have a clog.
Step 2 - Turn off the Power to the Pump

Before actually removing the clog from your pool pump impeller you will need to turn off the power to it. Remove the basket and use a finger to reach into the hole behind the basket to feel for any debris. If it is clogged, go to step 3.
Step 3 - Disconnect the Pump and Motor

Disconnect the pump and motor from the plumbing. Depending upon the make and model of your pool pump you may be able to skip this step. The motor usually just slides away from the pump.
Step 4 - Remove the Plastic Cover

Take the pump apart by removing the plastic cover over the motor. This cover generally has several small screws holding it on.
Step 5 - Remove and Clean the Impeller

Once the cover is removed you will easily be able to see the clog in the pool pump impeller. Just use your fingers or a coat hanger to clean it out.
Step 6 - Clean

Put everything back together. Once you have it cleaned out you can put the cover back on and put it all back together. Problem solved.

Can a person use a hayward de ec40 for either above ground pools or inground pools? if not why?

Yes as long as you are sure to match the flow rate of the pump to the filter. The biggest limit will be the low maximum flow rate the EC40 has. It will clog up to fast if installed on a larger pool...inground pools are generally larger (more gallons of water) than above ground. The pumps are more important to match as far as using inground rated units for inground pools and above ground for inground. Filters only care about flow rate and overall volume of water to keep clean.

Hi, we have a Zodiac pool creepy crawly pool cleaner which seems to work for a while, then get stuck in the one spot and not move in our inground pool.

With these pool cleaners, getting stuck in one spot is most likely the result of a waterflow problem. Check your water flow valve and make sure that it is adjusted correctly. make sure that you don't have any blockage that would prevent movement and cause the cleaner to stick in one place. This might seem like common sense, but make sure that you have enough hose to reach the entire pool. Many times, when this occurs, the cleaner cannot reach one part of the pool. make sure that your hose balance is correct also.

Not self priming itself. when it turns off the water pushes back out of the skimmer and pushes the basket up. it loses water and the pump cant re-prime itself.

PRIME PUMP, OPEN AIR VALVE ON FILTER. OR TAKE THE LID OFF YOUR FILTER AND SEE IF IT STARTS TO PUMP... YOU DO HAVE IT PLUMBED RIGHT? THE PIPE COMING OUT OF THE PUMP GOES TO THE FILTER !! I'M YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP REPAIR GUY IN LONGWOOD FLORIDA. WHERE THE POOL IS ALWAYS OPEN

How do you clean the polaris feed hose?

Where the hose connects to the wall you push the fitting in and turn it 1/4 turn then pull out. Inside the fitting is a screen that will clog up. Remove this and clean. If you have a cartridge filter this will need to be done after cleaning the filter. If you have another filter you may have a problem with the filter and will need to check this out. Good luck.

My Polaris 380's wheels have stopped moving or move at a very, very slow rate. The pulleys are fine, the inline screen is clean, the booster pump is fine.

remove the backup valve temporarily and note action. If improved - replace valve. Also check head float for water. There should be none present.

Zodiac pool cleaning head not working

Hi
Most people refer to the "In Pool Unit" as the Head...

To the OP, what do you mean not working?

That is so ambiguous of a question.
  • What is doing, what is not doing?
  • Is your 380 booster pump working/pumping water?
  • Are your hoses tangling?
  • Is main circulation pump on?
    • It needs to be, for your 380 sweep to work
If it is sluggish to barely moving, then do the easy thing - if you haven't as of yet, clean either the inline filter screen just off the wall fitting, or the finger screen filter in the wall adaptor fitting. A 1/4 turn will take it off the wall from the fitting, then the screen will be accessible.
If that is clogged, then your 380 will not work.

Suction with my pump

First thing to check is the removal of any winterizing plugs in the return lines. Sometimes plugs are fitted inside the lines in the pool making them not obvious. Secondly, check that any valves in return line are open. Many never lube type valve handles are oppositely positioned as compared to ball valves. If the multiport valve hasn't been tampered with, then there really is no other place to look. The flows everywhere but back to pool.
