My KitchenAid KSM90 will not turn on at all.

First make sure that the mixer is plugged into a working outlet. Were there any symptoms the last time you used your mixer? Check the cord on the mixer for damage. If the cord shows any wear replace it immediately.

At any point in time have you removed the brushes or adjust the speed control plate? After checking the cord, remove the brushes from the mixer, check to see if they are pitted, if they are replace the brushes. Please pay extra attention when putting the brushes back in the mixer, there is a dog-eared side of the brush, match this up to the brush holder to make sure the brush is inserted correctly.

If the brushes are not the problem check the speed control plate. If you remove the end cover from the mixer you can gain direct access to the speed control plate. There are 3 screws on this plate, the top two are used to adjust the speed of the mixer, the bottom one spaces the on/off switch contact. Try adjust the bottom screw to see if the mixer will turn on, it is possible the on/off switch was out of place.

Try these first, if none of this works let me know and we can continue trouble shooting.

Hobart k45 won't run

the K45 was introduced in 1962 and ran until 1978 when the K45SS was introduced. You have an open circuit inside, you need to open the machine from the rear and look to the power cord connections. make sure that the wires are connected and none are floating loose. the next step would be to replace the speed control switch. then check your carbon brushes if either one of the brushes are down to the nubs then it would cause a short when you turned it on, if that is the case then be glad that you have breakers and not fuses because you would have fried your motor. the speed control switch has no power attached to it. ifg the problem still exist after checking power cord, speed control plate and brushes then you have a fried armature or stator either can short the system if they have a burned wire inside especially the stator.
let us know how you fare on this after you check out the first easy steps, we can help with the harder fix also.

Kitchenaid K45 Mixer will only run at one speed, fast

is it a K45 or a K45SS? If it is a K45 you will have to replace the filters inside and probably the speed control plate, if it is a K45SS then you need a new phase control board. The K45 is pre 1978 and the K45SS is post 1978. Your information is correct on pre 1978 K45 models that the capacitor is bad, but it might be cheaper to go garage sale hunting and find a second machine as the parts are no longer made and having spares on hand may be a significant advantage in the future, also there are a great many of the K45SS parts that will also repair the K45 mixer so it may not be a practical solution. Watch ebay regularly for K45 parts, they come up every couple of months. On the parts diagram also look for the K5 diagram as it is identical to the K45, one is a 5 quart mixer and the other one is 4.5 quart, same parts same motor same everything.

Mixer only runs at one speed

if it runs only at high speed it needs a new phase control board if the mixer is post 1978, if the mixer is pre 1978 then you will have to replace a capacitor on the end of the power cord inside the mixer. if the mixer only works on one speed that is not high speed then you need to adjust or replace the speed control plate on post 1978 mixers and the capacitor on pre 1978 machines. Hope that helps

Kitchenaid deluxe 5 edition stand mixer runs on speed 10 and after 30 sec stops I thought it was the speed control pannel then I order one online and change it but that work 2 times and i have the original...

In the Artisan mixers the problem can be caused by two different parts. First the speed control plate. When you remove the end cover from the mixer the first thing you see is the speed control plate. There are 3 screws on this, two at the top, one on the bottom. Try adjusting the top two screws, to adjust, turn in the control plate adjusting the screws an equal amount.
Also check to see if the control plate spring is unhooked. Remove end cover, and check control plate spring. If unhooked, attach to bottom of the control plate and squeeze the spring end.
It can also be caused by incorrect wiring, check the wiring, the last page of the service manual will be a wiring diagram for your mixer. Here is a link to the service manual. http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf
Last, if the control plate is properly adjusted, the control plate spring is hooked correctly and the wiring is correct you will need to replace the speed control phase board. With the line cord disconnected, pull the t-bar contacts to open and insert a piece of paper between them so they cannot close. Reapply power-the mixer should just run or buzz trying to run. If it operates at full speed, the phase control is defective and needs to be replaced.

My KSM150PS stopped working!! HELP!!

Yikes!!!!
Can you tell us what you were making last time you used the machine? Do you do pizza and other doughs a lot. The KSM150 is a 325 watt mixer with lots of power so;
1 first lets go back to the outlet and try anything that can show fast results like a hair dryer to test the outlet.2 The cord from the mixer, do you unplug it by pulling on ti? Or do you use the plug itself when unplugging. Do you have and know how to use a volt meter. If yes to both
3 Remove the rear cover and you will see a black and copper plate with a whole bunch of connectors on it. the left two bottom black and white terminals are the power for the mixer, turn the mixer on and test the terminals to make sure the machine is getting power, if not replace the power cord. You will have to open the machine and take it apart somewhat to replace the cord.
4 it could be the speed control plate itself (Most likely) there are three screws on the plate in an upside down triangle, turn the one on the bottom left a little bit while the mixer is on if it is the adjusting screws it should start again with less than a half turn.
5 Look at all the terminals to the speed control switch and make sure that they are connected if any one of them has come off then the machine won't work.

There can be other problems but this fix is the most common. Let us know if this does not work and we can go into it a little more in depth.

If you leave the machine on for a minute or more does it start to smell (burnt smell or hot electric) If you have a warranty (still within the first year of purchase ) get in touch with Kitchenaid they will send a new mixer with out question. If you are out of warranty then we can fix it, one step at a time, or you could take it to an authorized service center, if you live close by to one. Let us know.

Has power on but doesn't run

If you took your brushes out to check them then your mixer will not work if you put the brushes back in the wrong way even if you fixed the original problem. the beveled side of the brushes must go back into the brush holders a very specific way/direction because the brush holders have a pinched corner on one edge that allows the brush to slide past and to make contact with the armature. if you are sure that the brushes are in the correct way lets proceed. (If not get a flashlight and look inside the brush holder for the pinched down corner and reinsert the brushes the right way)
fist the basics, I know it seems dumb to even think this but ... well you know.
1. check the outlet you are using for the mixer to see that it has power.
2. The outlet is hot, look at the rar top of the mixer you will see a small "Phillips Head" screw. take it out. and lift up and out at the same time to remove the the rear motor head cover.
3. take a moment and look at what you see. now look at the cord that you use to plug the mixer into the outlet. follow it back into the mixer head and you will see three wires. Green = ground and it is attached to the mixer frame with a #3 Phillips screw, leave it alone. the other two wires, one black and one white attach to what is called the speed control board by means of two flag style connectors. Are they attached? Or have they or either one of them come off?
4. if they are attached to the flag terminals, then get a multi meter and check for power between the terminals. the black test probe goes to the black lead on the mixer terminal, your red test lead goes on the white flag terminal attached to the mixer. personally i would disconnect these two leads before I tested them to avoid any safety issues with the mixer. If ther is no power to the terminals when you p,lug the cord into the wall then the cord is bad. Order one and replace it. you could also test the cord another way by checking for ohms resistance and you won't have to plug the cord in at all. Ohms testing is safer.
5, if the cord is good then the next thing to look at is the phase control board. that is a small computer style board above and behind the big black and copper board with 3 screws in it. It has 4 wires coming out of it. You probably have no real way to test this unless you are familiar with electrical :Bread Board" circuitry. i usually just carry a new one with me and replace it. It's faster.
6. If the system still does not start I remove speed control plate/board,The black and copper one. (there is a spring attached that will have to be removed, if you let it snap back into the machine you will have to dismantle the entire motor head to dig it out, so hook a cloth under it's clip that will hold it and keep it from snapping back into the mixer). Now install a new spped plate and test again. if you still have no power there are only two electric problems left one is the armature and the stator which are the two components that make up the motor, but it will require a complete tear down to replace. I have never had a motor go out. the problem is usually the cord or brushes. Let me know if this helped. If not we can post a location to the service manual and parts list for your mixer.

Where can i find a hobart k45 replacement cord

You can purchase a replacement power cord from Amazon.com. It is part number 9701025 and includes the grounding style plug which the original did not have. It can also be purchased from your local Sears parts store but it will be much more expensive

Need to replace cord on vintage Sunbeam Mixmaster Junior

For mixmaster junior, but should be relevent to many old sunbeams:

That's not the power cord going to the speed switch. You don't need to get those screws off.
To replace the cord:
Cut the old power cord near where it enters the blender.
remove the two front screws, pull off front housing.
remove 1/4" nuts found in recesses of exposed front plate.
pull speed handle out far enough to get a screwdriver under exposed front plate, and pry gently. It'll come off as it's a friction fit.
cooling fan blade is now visible, you need to remove it.
pry up gently on the teeth attaching it to the motor shaft.
Work your way around the 4 sets of teeth, it'll come off. Don't lose the two washers.
unscrew the electrical contacts.
take off the speednuts holding the brush assembly in place.
gently pull up on the brush assembly with a needle nose, until it comes out.
now remove the screws holding the motor coils in place. They're the same ones the speednuts attached to, and have hex heads you can get at with a needlenose.
once those are out, pull on the motor coils gentle, and wiggle them out of the housing.
You'll see the stub of the old power cord at the back of it.
Get a round replacement wire of the right diameter, thread it through the cord hole in the blender, and connect it up to the coils.
-I had to drill the power cord hole 1/16" larger than it was to get a modern cord to fit through it.
On the stub of the old cord, you'll see a metal ring which serves to anchor the cord in blender body. remove it (screwdriver + needlenose and pry), and attach to new cord at the righ position.
Put everything back together, being careful not to bust the carbon brushes.
Congrats, you now have a functional blender with a cord that won't try to electrocute you.
