GE agitators are pressed on. To remove, firmly grasp the bottom of the agitator with both hands, one on each side. Pull hard and abruptly, straight up being careful not to hit your face or chin with the top of the agitator.

Clothes wrapping around washing machine agitator.

This issue could be caused by a number of things. It is possible that the clothes are not properly balanced in the wash drum, causing them to wrap around the agitator. It could also be a problem with the agitator itself, or with the transmission.

Necklace caught under the agitator

In the center of the sgitator, there is a bolt.
Sometimes there is a plug to remove by prying out.
Remove this bolt.... or just loosen it, and the necklace will come free.
See item 2 in the expanded view on the left side.

Necklace stuck in washer

Hold the bottom part of the Agitator,(The part that you are talking about),Undo the very top part in an anti-clockwise direction and it will come right off.Use a wrench to remove the nut on the top of the agitator and then lift it right out,you may need to move it from right to left. You will now be able to remove the necklace.Replace the Agitator the reverse of removal.
