Lid switch needs replacement, cannot figure out how to get to it, I have removed all the screws from the back panel, but the panel does not budge. There are no exposed screws holding the control console, they are inside, so need to figure out what to remove and how in order to get to the lid switch.

You need to remove the front panel there’s 2 screws behind that panel once you remove those screws the top from the front push it towards the back and slide it up at the same time

I have a Kenmore Elite 110.26962502 and need to remove lid.

Once those are removed you flip up the whole control panel. You do not remove the end caps on that particular washer. Here is some PICTURES

5 yr old top load washer needs new lid switch; bought the part -- now what?

Check the rear of side plastic panels, they have a screw that holds it in place. (remove them).
Pull control panel towards you and fold it backwards carefully so you don't brake the plastic hinges.
Remove the metal brackets that keep the top panel secured on cabinet and slide top panel off about an inch so you can lift and exposed lid switch - remove old lid switch and assemple everything you removed the way it was.
GOOD LUCK!!

Lid switch replacement

Some washing machines have the bolts that hold the top down situated behind the front panel but you have to remove the panel to gain access.
There may be 3-4 screws at the bottom of the front panel, remove the screws and the panel should come out.
Hope this has helped

Kenmore washer

Yes I fixed my washer problem.
The washer was stopping before it would drain and spin. I would raise the lid and then close it back and it would start back up. So we figured the lid switch was broke.

Before you do anything you "unplug" the washer!
You have to pop the ends off the back panel with the buttons on it. Then you unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom of the panel and raise it up. Then you remove the brass clips that are holding the lid on. Then you move the whole washing machine cabinet out. My husband replaced the lid switch. Then we had to figure out how to get the cabinet back on right. That took some time but we did it. Then you repeat everything you did to take it off to put it back together.

The washer is working fine now.

some have 2 or 3 screws on back when released push lid forward or backwards, others are more tricky the front panel has to be removed this can be snap connectors or hidden screws under the panel .
