In a word- shmutz. Soap residue, sweat, dust, dirt gets in the space around the outer button, so that it no longer acts as a spring loaded, self-returning button. You will see this if you remove the movement from the watch case and look at the little metal plungers under the four outer buttons and the "start/stop" button. Use some silicon lube or spray on the outer portion of each button and around the small metal plunger inside while you work the button and the plunger back and forth, until it no longer hangs up and glides freely. Clean/dry excess silicon. Check the corresponding areas on the sides of the watch movements (what the little metal plungers hit) to make sure the metal spring prongs are straight and not corroded (use emery cloth or steel wool to clean if they are). Do A/C reset. Test Indiglo button until you get it to work, then reassemble.

Try pushing all buttons simultaneously to reset the watch. Worked for mine.

Replace the back cover with the arrow pointing directly at the stem. Everything should work correctly with the cover in that position.

CORRECTION!!! The arrow on the back cover should point directly AWAY from the stem.

Timex indiglo. Indiglo feature died.

The indiglo technology is time limited (it dims over the years with use) and cannot be repaired - have you had the watch a long time? if so, I'm afraid it's time to get a new one. Sorry!

Timex Expedition, beeps very quietly and indiglo doesn't work.

To clarify... Replace the cover with the arrow on the back pointing directly at the stem. The Indiglo backlight, alarms and chimes should all work when the back cover is in this position.
