Flip the unit on it's back, remove the battery, unscrew the RAM slot cover, remove the ram by pushing the two locking pieces away from the sides of the RAM. remove the RAM then re-seat it back into the slot, replace cover and replace the battery, flip unit back and attempt to boot. If you still get the beeps, note weather they are short or long, short-long-long, or short-short-long etc... it maybe a graphics problem and since most graphics cards on toshiba laptops are built onto the board you will have to replace the system board....is it under warranty? if not you maybe looking at an expensive fix.

Computer beeps

If you try to power on your computer and nothing happens but a bunch of beeps there is something you can do. The beeps actually mean something. To make sure you can hear the beeps check in the bios options. If there is an option for a silent boot you won't hear any beeps. If you hear one beep every time your computer starts then you don't have to worry about this.

If you want to check this setting refer to my other tip on how to enter bios and change boot settings.

If you try to boot your computer and nothing shows up on your monitor do these steps first.
1-Check all your cables in the back of the computer.
2-check your power source and power cord to the monitor
3-try another monitor if possible
4-If on a power bar try to turn off the power bar and reset the breaker

If you try to boot your computer and nothing happens and you hear beeps look at this website. The beeps you hear are actually telling you what is wrong. Look at the website by clocking on the link below and click on the computer beep codes link. If you want to scroll down past the link it will show you bios codes to enter the bios in your computer

Gateway GM5442 PC Desktop Won't Boot!

3 BEEPS -RAM

Guest Posts: n/a 01-24-2005 We had a power failure in the office this weekend. All the systems are back
up and running fine, except for the receptionists. It's a Gateway
Professional Series. P4 1.3 Ghz. It is giving me three beeps. No boot up
screen and no video source (monitor light stays yellow instead of turning
green). I looked up the beep code and it says three beeps means the ram
needs reseated. Which I have done several times. Also, I have just put in
one stick in difference seats. I have also reseated all the cards at least
three times. I have switched the jumper to try to boot into setup mode.
Nothing there either. Popped out the cmos battery and put it back in. No
good either.

Has all the ram been fried? The fan on the cpu is still spinning. The cd-rom
ejects. I can't hear the hard drive spinning. I guess I can swap the hard
drive for a different one.

Anything I'm missing? YEP

My Thinkpad G41 does not boot up, nothing comes up

Hello

Have you tried swapping out ram modules? This would probably be the cheapest. And, a faulty ram module gives a beep code. Try it, and let me know.

Kind regards
Andrea

Boot problem

You would need to note whether the 8 blinks are in a specific order; this is probably equivalent to beep codes and the spacing (grouping) of the beeps/blinks may tell you what problem you are having (other than having clumsy buddies).
Check to see if they are grouped in some recognizable manner such as 3-3-2 and then you would have to check with Acer to decode the sequence. Depending on whose BIOS is installed in your model, the 8 blinks equally spaced may be valid too and tell you the nature of the problem..
An example of the 'beep' codes can be seen here, midway down the page:

Dell gx 150

Chuck,
The 6 beeps are an error code. You should note a pattern such as 3 beeps, short pause, 1 beep, short pause, 2 beeps. Also, you may have a set of 4 error indicators on the back of the unit that will show a pattern of green and yellow lights. In any case, you will want to try to run the Dell diagnostics. Let us know the beep pattern and the light pattern and we should be able to give you some more specific information.
