Hi. You might need to Replace the oil pan gasket is the oil is leaking. Here's the procedure on how to Replace the oil pan gasket.

1. Jack up the front end of the car and slide a jack stand under the vehicle. Make sure the jack stand is securely in place, and then put blocks in front of the rear wheels to keep them from rolling.

2. Slide under the car and put a drain pan under the drain plug of the oil pan. Loosen the drain plug with a socket wrench and allow all of the old oil to drain into the pan. Remove the old oil filter.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the dipstick and its housing. Remove the collar on the rear of the oil pan. If the vehicle is equipped with engine oil cooler lines that lead to the oil pan, remove them as well, along with transmission oil cooler clips.

4. Remove the bolts holding the oil pan, and carefully remove the oil pan. Remove the old gasket. Scrape it with a putty knife if necessary, but be very careful not to scratch the surface.

5. Wipe out the oil pan with a clean cloth or paper towel, and wipe the joining surface of the oil pan with cleaning fluid or solvent. Apply a thin bead of automotive sealer and install the new gasket.

6. Replace the oil pan, tightening the bolts securely. Replace the transmission oil cooler clips, engine oil cooler lines, oil pan collar, dipstick housing and dipstick, and reconnect the negative battery cable. Install a new oil filter.

7. Take the car off the jack stand and fill the engine with the appropriate amount of SAE 10W-30 or SAE 5W-30.

All the best!

2003 dodge Intrepid 2.7l oil leak above rear main seal after running 20 minutes

rear main seal usually only leaks when the car is running. though oil will slowy drip off afterwards. now the best way to tell is to remove the heat sheild that covers the flywheel and look at it and at the flywheel . is the oil only on the engine side of the cover or is it inside the cover and on the fly wheel. the rear main seal will leak into the bellhousing and on the fly wheel the oil pan gasket will leak on the front of the heat sheild.

Is fixing a oil pump easy

No. You have to drop the oil pan to get to it. You may have to remove some of the exhaust to drop the oil pan. There is likely cross members, that will be in the way too. It can be done, but you gotta take your time. Get a good oil pan gasket for reinstall and have a torque wrench and manual to show the pattern that must be used or you'll have big oil leaks. You may end up having leaks anyways.

My 97 dodge intrepid is leaking oil badly! It looks like from engine. How do I fix it?

You don't say from what part of the engine. When is the last time you've had the oil changed? Check the oil filter first if it's loose (it happens) or the seal is old etc... a new filter will fix it.

it could be numerous problems. First need to find out what are under the car is leaking and where it may be leaking from. You have a oil pan that could be leaking, the valve cover could be leaking and the oil running down making it look as if it;s from under the car. Is this oil or transmission fluid?

Water in the oil, leaking out the front of the oil pan, fixed water leak by replacing the thermastat, now there is no sign out a water leak on the outside.

Coolant in oil is going to be the head gaskets letting coolant passed the gasket into the cylinders/oil passages

Oil leak repaired the oil pan gasket still leaking what can it be?

good morning and welcome to fixya.

lets see if we cant get you some help here, you say you installed a new oil pan gasket and tightened all the bolts to spec. did you clean the mating surfaces completely and use a gasket sealer i.e high tack, gasket may have slipped when reinstalling could be on the end of pan, have you pin-pointed the spot where it is leaking from? you might run a dye test on it. could be leak coming from above running down disguising itself. not sure what steps you have already taken. if you could let me know so i can help you more. thank you again, and you and i will get you leak fixed

Oil pan crack

yes, it could have caused this. You have to prove it with the insurance company, by getting a mechanic to say this is what hit it and caused it to hit the pan.

97Dodge Intrepid Problem

Numerous things can cause this, plugged rad, faulty thermostat, low coolant, cooling fan not operating, bad cap,and if it's left too long or overheats too much, you could cause major damage like head gasket, head cracking. The later are major expenses, so don't let it get to that. Does it heat up on highway, or in stop & go more? Does turning your heater on, make it cool down a bit? Do you know if your rad has been flushed lately, and thermostat changed?
