Since 1980, the preferred energy saving viscosities for GM gasoline engines are SAE 10W-30 for the larger engines and SAE 5W-30 for the smaller engine, so the recommended oil is 5W-30W for the V6, if the engine is high miles u can run 10W-30W if you live in a warmer climate.

I have a 1987 pointiac Fiero. It has the 2.5L 4

It gives 3 quarts just as a starting point, it says this for the 4-cyl and 6-cyl, just so you don't overfill it. The distance between the two marks/notches on the dipstick represents 1-quart. If it's exactly on the low mark, then add 3/4 of a quart and see where it ends up, should be about 3/4 of the way to the other notch. Don't add quarts at a time, overfilling your oil can be just as bad or worse than if you underfill it. You'll be breaking oil seals all over....not good! :)

I have a 1987 pointiac Fiero. It has the 2.5L 4

if you've added the oil and started the car and the oil level is at the add mark with the engine off, allowing a minute or so for the oil to drain back down to the oil pan, add 1 more quart
