The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube and or diverting the water allowing it to freeze wherever it drips to. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips. You can melt the ice in the fill tube with a hairdryer.
The water inlet valve is on the back where the water supply from your house is connected to the fridge. It's a dual valve with one valve for the water dispenser and one for the ice maker. Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It's on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear. You can disconnect the line there to verify that it's dripping.
Your motors you mentioned should be ok since they are probably overload protected. The inlet tube is the only part of the water line which is inside the freezer. It's an open tube the water just flows from. It's the only part you'll have to thaw.
Part 8 on this diagram is the fill tube.http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir...
You may not need to remove the ice maker to remove it. Twist it left to right while you pull it out. If you do need to remove it, The ice maker hangs on the wall with two or three screws. One at the top can be seen on the diagram., and one at the bottom. Just loosen these screws and the ice maker will lift off the bracket and you can then reach the wiring harness to unplug it.
The water inlet valve is part 10 on this diagramhttp://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdir...
It does appear to be behind a cover.

Okay, the drawer is frozen shut. Do I have to empty the entire fridge and defrost it to open the drawer or will your hairdryer job do it? If so, where do I apply the hear on the unit?
Thanks for your help.
I shut the water off when I saw the leak last week, when I saw water dripping into the fridge. Okay, I have the drawer open. I pulled out the drawer and defrosted all the ice in the large screw that carries the ice to the chute. I can't help thinking that the motor is shot from not being able to turn it when it was frozen. And what about the motor that turns the paddles in the ice cube tray? The switch has been in the on position for a week. How do I get to that water line that fills the tray? It's pretty crowded in there.
Thanks.
Okay. There's nothing but a single hose coming out of the bottom of the refrigerator back - right at the bottom. I don't know where there's a split in the line for the water/icemaker. There's an 8' square plate about two feet off the ground that looks like it is removable - not sure if the splitter you speak of is behind there - otherwise the whole back of the refrigerator has to come off - sliding out from the bottom - YIKES!
When you pull open the ice drawer, the remaining unit (the actual ice tray unit) appears as if it comes out - I press on the clip in the left side of the unit next to the wall, but the unit does not seem to want to slide toward me. Does this unit have another fastener holding it to the back? Is this where the hose you want me to defrost is?
