I was just given a Maytag Neptune Electric Dryer (Model: MDE6800AYW). Supposedly it was lightly used in the past and then stored (unused) for some period of time.
I plugged it into an existing (3 prong) Electric Dryer outlet. None of the control lights on the control panel come on. When I open the dryer door however, they do come on (and appear to function properly - for instance adjusting time on timed dry setting). Of course, if I press start, the control pan will display "do" which presumably indicates 'door open' which it is. However, when I shut the dryer door all the lights on the control panel go off. Nothing happens if I press start or any other button.
I would love if this turns out to be something incredibly stupid on my part (with operating the controls), but I am stumped. I have searched the manuals and a couple of forums to no avail. Please point me in the right direction?
I fixed my own problem...I took the extra 4th wire(green) and attached it to the dryer body...There is a screw with the word ground stamped into the metal above it. This is right next to the panal where the cord goes into. I just unscrewed it and put my cable there and the dryer works perfect.....These things need to have a detailed diagram on the dryer....
The power connects for the 240 volts to the outside screws on the terminal block the center connector is the nutral connection

I don't quite understand the posted solution. Do you mean that I should check that the power connections on the dryer?
My dryer is doing the same thing. I replaced the 3prong plug with a 4prong and had a left over gry wire...I just put electrical tape on the gry plug and attached the rest.....
What do I do?
I have the exact same problem with this dryer - I've changed the electric cord - I've checked all connections and nothings seems to work - I know it works because I worked for a minute but went back to doing the same thing - could it be the motor control? please help?
