My whirlpool refrigerator trips the main power

Hi !

Every time I insert the power socket into the power switch, my Whirlpool refrigerator trips the circuit breaker and my house's electricity goes for toss.

I tried the refrigerator connection at different points in house but my issue remains as it is. This refrigerator is one and a half year old (Model - Whirlpool - FF 400 Elite).

Please advice.

Cheers
Pankaj

Pankaj, Do you have a ohm meter? Sounds like you have something shorting back. First take the meter to the cord. On the end of the cord, you should show no continuity from each male prong to the ground prong on the cord itself. If you show continuity, you have something shorting back. Then I would start with the compressor, Unplug the wires going to the overload and relay, make sure the units unpluged and meter the cord again. If it's ok, then the problem is in the overload and relay. Start there and let me know, if it still showing a short, then we will have to go to the controls, heater, and repeat the process until you find the culprit. Catriver.

Whirlpool - troubleshooting

Hi,

These are guesses as I don't have enough information like how long is the unit plugged in? Check outlet for voltage. Check unit for amp draw. Try another outlet, do you have the same issue? Best guess..Good Luck

My fridge is tripping the power out in my house. do i need a new motor?

It might not be the motor, it could even be the door switch, but first unplug the fridge, disconnect the wires from the motor, insulate them, switch on and see if your house power trips out. If the house does not trip out it is the motor. It is still trips out, look at the wires to the switch and the light and also the thermostat. Good luck and remember to unplug the wall socket whenever checking any circuit.

most all models only have a 1 year warranty,, unless you bought the extended warranty,,, anyway the issue could be in the cord or the most likely issue is the main board in the back,, most are on the back with a cover over them

It could be the breaker is worn out and tripping too soon. You can try another plug that's wired to a different breaker. If you can do electrical stuff you may need to tighten the clamps holding the wires to the breaker.

Whirlpool Refrigerator not working -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi all, I have a Whirlpool ED22PC SxS fridge which has stopped cooling on both the...

Hi. Due to the fact that the fans are not operational, this will confirm that the Main PCB has failed. This is the main power control board. It must be replaced, asap. The general location of this affected board will be just behind an access panel, near the compressor unit, or on the backside, mounted in the middle section of the unit.

Once the Main PCB board is replaced, the unit will return to its normal operating status.

My Whirlpool refrigerator trips the main breaker of 40 Amps

A refrig cannot pull 40 amps in defrost , unless there is a direct short in the defrost system ( timer , heater , bimetal ) . I would use an extention cord ( for test purposes only ) , and try a different plug . Sounds like the circuit breaker is weak . In defrost , the MOST you should get , is 6 amps . This will not throw a 40 amp breaker . If you have an amp meter , remove the back refrig panel behind the refrig , and connect to one of the power cord lines (just not the green ground ) , turn into defrost and check the amps . This will tell you if short is in refrig , or weak breaker .
