Last night suddenly I experinced some screen problem in my
TV. A big black box appeared and remained on the screen. The sound is fine and
if I change the channel the box will disappear for a second and then come back
up. One interesting thing, when I change the channels, I can view 3-4 local
channels without black box I tried unplugging it and connected again with
no change. When I try to watch VCR run, black box is still there but when I try
to watch DVD player connected with TV, the black box is not there.
Anyone have any suggestions?
The problem with the black box happened to me. I had pushed the subtitle button on my remote by mistake. Interestingly enough, as soon as I pushed the SUBTITLE key again, on the remote, the black boxes disappeared.
It also says CC which means closed captioned-- So the bottom on my remote is Subtitle, and then on the subtitle button is cc...

Nah its probably your TV setting its a simple closed caption setting ...set it to off and you should be good to go ..my tv was doing the same thing
Go to the Tv menu and check the text function maybe you activated by mistake turned off.
I have a Toshiba model MW24FM1 TV (2002). Had big solid black boxes on just a few channels. Took off closed captioning and boxes went away.
I've been having the same problem. My neighbor was just here and said he'd had the same problem with the TV at work. The parental controls were somehow activated accidentally and could not be unlocked with the universal remote. He said he had to rummage around the basement until he found the right remote for that TV, but was able to fix the problem with it. I have just ordered a new remote online from JVC.
