My counter-top gas cooking range continues to make the ticking sound ( tick-tick-tick) even when all burners are off. There is sparking at all the burners too with the sound, I have removed the electrical plug from the wall and so the ticking sound has stopped. When I plug the wire in, the sound starts again. If I light the burners, the sound continues until I light the back-burner when the sound stops. I have tried cleaning the burners and removing all moisture by using a hair-dryer on the burners, but still the ticking continues when I plug in the electrical cord. What can be done?

SOURCE: jenn air jed 8430 electric cooktop control switch for rear burner

The cook top is attached to the wood frame by brackets, just remove the screws and the electric connection, make sure the power is off from the main box, it's a 220 volt wiring and then just lift the top off. to remove the glass, look around the edges and you should see some small screws, just remove them and the glass should lift off.

SOURCE: Jenn-Air JDG8430 Ignitor won't stop sparking after burner ignites

when you turn the dial a switch is engaged to start the ignitor , or if there is a sensor(one for the two bottom , one for the two top , it may not be reconizing that they are lit ,or the problem is sticky switch in the the dials, but I believe its a sensor that detects both of those burners that stops the spark

SOURCE: One burner on gas cooktop fires up but goes tick, tick tick.

There may well be water in the burner. It will evaporate in a day or two. Then it will work fine again.

Middle section ticking sound with sparking as if trying to ignite even though knobs

Try using a pair of pliers and pushing down as you turn first counter clockwise as if you are turning the gas on then back clockwise till it won't turn anymore. If it's still trying to ignite see if its the oven or make sure that its the burner that's trying to ignite . I''m not a appliance person just a home maker so if it were me and none of those things work turn off the gas to the stove unplug the power to the stove and call the gas company or appliance center. One thing though some of those type of knobs are two parts like they have to be pressed down to turn on the gas. Or the have to be set in a certain position to engage the ignite switch. If you know a little about wiring look at the switch and check the wires. But make sure before you do anything that there is no gas on.!!!

Stove top ignition doesn't stop ticking

My Dacor cooktop had a similar problem of continuously clicking igniters. I unplugged it a couple months ago and used a piezoelectric igniter to get it started. Then I looked in the Dacor FAQ and it said to clean the ceramic igniter posts with alcohol not water. I had to scrape some gunk off a couple of the posts with a knife before cleaning with alcohol. Now it works.'

I think the igniters use electrical conductivity to detect when they need to spark, so even slight invisible contamination on the igniter insulator can confuse the sensing system. Also they all seem to fire as a group, so all of them need to be clean because if any one of them is dirty then they will all malfunction.
