Connecting a YAMAHA RX-V2700 receiver to my TV and cable box
I have a Yamaha receiver, RX-V2700. i connected a hdmi cable from my televison to the receiver. I then connected another HDMI cable from my cable box to the receiver. i get no audio or video from the receiver.
I connected the receiver to the cable box with an optical to get audio.
How can I get audio & video through the HDMI cable through the receiver

try connecting the hdmi out from cable box to your tv hdmi input, and leave the hdmi out from tv to the reciever where it is, leaving reciever selected to 'TV' and yes, a sub matters (it is not part of your problem but you need the bass a sub provides)
Your symptom sounds like a poor digital connection. The receiver is probably configured to prefer the digital feed if both digital and analog are present from a given source. That it blinks the 'analog' indicator means it thinks the digital signal is degraded.
I believe you're using HDMI. If your cable box has either optical or coaxial digital outputs, try one or both and proceed from there. You could also certify the health of the receiver input that's failing by connecting another device (your Blu-Ray?) to it to test it out, or simply borrow its cable.
If the input works with another device THAT would indicate a problem upstream and external from the receiver - cable, output of the cable box. Optical cables are more finicky than coaxial and do not tolerate being routed in tight radious bends.
There are no "upgrades" however, if your having problems with HDMI switching or "not working" You can send it to Yamaha and they will replace the HDMI board at n/c. It's still version 1.2 and the current version is 1.3a soon to be 1.4. What is it that you need to have upgraded? Post a comment with what it is you would like your receiver to do and I can help you further. I work with Yamaha daily
Can't pass HDMI thru this or any other receiver with version 1.1,1.2,1.2a,or 1.2b. HDMI is riddled with issues! it's not Yamaha, it's HDMI. The current version 1.3b is working "so far" If your receiver is still under warranty, Yamaha will update the software and hardware at N/C. If it's out of warranty, Run HDMI directly from source to TV and Audio to your receiver via optical or digital coaxial. For more info than you can process, google "HDMI forums" and there are over 73,000 posts/sites/etc. If you need further info, post a comment and I will be glad to help.
I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't. You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.
hi i had similar problem, you need to change the settings in the bluray player output to hdmi or auto in other to get sound after the settings turn everything off even from the socket and then turn it back on for that setting to take effect. try this
