From Brother's website, I found the following regarding alignment:

Setting the Alignment:

  1. Press the Ink or Ink Management key on the control panel.
  2. Press the up or down navigation key to select TEST PRINT and press Menu/Set or Set.
  3. Press the up or down navigation key to select ALIGNMENT and press Menu/Set or Set.
  4. Press Black (Mono) Start or Color (Colour) Start. The MFC/DCP begins printing the Alignment Check Sheet.
  5. By reviewing this Test Sheet, you can determine if the alignment needs adjustment.
  6. Examine the 600 DPI and 1200 DPI test prints on the Alignment Check Sheet. If the number 5 sample of both the 600 DPI and 1200 DPI most closely matches the 0 sample, press 1 (YES).
If one of the other samples is a better match for the 0 sample, press 2 (NO). The display will then prompt you to select the sample that most closely matches the 0 sample for 600 DPI and then 1200 DPI.
  7. Press Stop/Exit.

How to Align a Printer Cartridge for a Dell Photo AIO 926Printers capable of producing high quality graphics and photos, like the Dell Photo All-In-One 926 printer, must have their cartridges properly aligned for best results. Typically you only need to align your printer's ink cartridges immediately after replacement. However, if documents show signs of uneven lines the cartridges being out of alignment. After aligning the cartridges print a test page to check print Instructions 1 Load printer paper into the Dell Photo 926 printer 2 Click on the start menu icon, on your computer, with your left mouse button. Left click on "Control Panel." Left click on "Hardware" and then left click on "Printers and Devices." 3 Locate and double left click on the icon for the Dell Photo 926 printer. The printer control window will open. Double left click on the "Adjust Print Options" button. 4 Click on the "Services" tab in the printer's window menu bar. Double left click on the "Align Print Cartridges" button." Left click on "align." Wait for the "Parameter" page to print. 5 Compare the figures on printed parameter page to current settings in the "Align Print Cartridges" window that has popped up on the computer. If the figures on the printed page correspond to the figures displayed in the window the cartridges are in alignment. The printer cuts off the top part of the document when printing. Is this a margin issue?

Yes, most likely your application's margin settings are incorrect. Try printing a test page - NOT from the application. If this is Windows, go to printers in control panel, right-click on the subject printer, choose Properties, then click the Print Test Page button. You should get the standard Windows printer test page with the logo at the top and all the printer specifics below. If the test page is also cut off, look around in the HP-provided software for any margin and/or page size settings that are incorrect, such as A4 paper when it should really be Letter size.

Hi, Wonder can you help my printer keeps printing off test page everytime it is turned on. this is only happening since i changed the cartridge, never did this before. thanks

Hi,

Your printer is printing alignment pages, because the cartridge alignment was not completed since you replaced them. Follow the below steps to complete alignment.

  1. Turn the printer OFF and then turn back ON.
  2. Wait until the alignment sheet prints out fully.
  3. Place the alignment test page over the scanner glass.
  4. Press start color scan button.
  5. The printer "power" light will start flashing, indication the alignment process.
  6. After the printer stops flashing, turn off and then ON the printer. It will not print any test pages further.
We need to run alignment test every-time while we replace ink cartridges.

It is not the test page it is alignment test page just put the printed alignment test page paper on scanner glass and press the scan button to complete the process. It is alignment process which is printer is doing for self testing after installing new cartridge. Just finish the process.
Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks.
Have a good day.

My printer is printing off color, already tried all settings on the printer. what else can i try?

Goto the HP Printer Solution Center. Open the Printer Toolbox. Under Device Services, you can Align and clean the print cartridges. Print a test and sample page.

Also the Help button opens another box. Search Adjust Color. Look for Adjust Color. From here you can learn to adjust Hue, saturation, and use enhanced colors.

Good Luck

How can I do a test print and adjust on HP C4180? I can't find the screen that allows you to adjust alignment etc.I am getting lines across my pictures. thanks Malkbk

Lines across the picture is usually dirty, or soon to be empty cartridge. But here is how you get to HP Tool Box:
START->SETTINGS->PRINTERS & FAXES->RIGHT CLICK ON PROPERTIES->BOTTOM PRINTING PREFERENCE->SERVICE TAB > and you have the place where the tools are kept.

You probably saw the print a test page next to the printing preferences...there you have it.
good luck , please leave rating. thankyou

Printer prints a test page every time I turn it on

This means your printer needs alignment. Take that test (alignment) page. Place it face down in the scanner. Press the scanner button. This will stop that page being printed every time.

Test printing

If you've recently changed your cartridges, the printer will try to print a test/alignment page. Note the instructions on the test page indicate what to do to complete the testing/alignment procedure.

1) Let it print.
2) Place the test page upside down on the scan plate.
3) Hit "Scan" and let it finish.

When the machine completes the scanning procedure, you'll be able to switch the printer on and off or reboot your computer without it printing the test page. By Dubbya
