Normal 0 After you get Google Talk installed and are ready to sign in, click on SETTINGS on the upper right. Then click on Audio and when the window comes up, click on MICROPHONE HEADSET and select what you will be using. Then below that click on SPEAKER HEADPHONE and again select the one you will be using. Then click on OK. It should be read to chat.
Hope this helps. Bud

I am new at using Skype. I have had a logitrech Communicate stx Web Cam installed. I notice there appears to be what one would think are microphone holes at the base of the lens as well as the writing...

You are correct.
For Logitech to work with Skype you need to install the Logitech driver for your model WEBcab. Then you need to configure Skype to use the Logitech WEBcam and microphone.

To test if the Logitech QuickCam is functioning, check the USB cable; make sure it is connected properly. Then click on Start - All Program - Logitech - Logitech QuickCam and see if you can get the camera to capture your image/video.
If this works then configure Skype. Sometimes the WEBcam settings drop off and the WEBcam need to be selected again. Open Skype - Tools - Options - Video Settings and select the Logitech QuickCam
Also check the Audio Settings for the Microphone THEN click on Save.
Avoid connecting the WEBcam to an USB hub, connect it directly to the computer's USB port.

Cam won't work on windows 7

That particular Cam is for Win 98SE, 2000, ME or XP so won't work on Win 7. The Logitech Pro 9000 will work with Win 7 and is HD quality and excellent audio (Amazon has great deals on them). Google Logitech Vid if you get one then send an invite to connect to your contacts. They too will have to download the Logitech Vid software for 'Live' calling, and the Cam will work in MSN Messenger.

Logitech QuickCam STX vista compatibility?

Have you updated DirectX?, I'm not sure if Vista has DX9.0 or 9.0c, but you could try and update DirectX before you install the cam software. Also if the cam is usb, did you install the software "before" connecting the cam?, some people aren't aware that usb devices have to have the software installed first, before connecting the device.
