Question about Boating

1 Answer

My 2001 115/HP Johnson outbd was starting hard last weekend. By Sunday it started to run ruff but would clear at higher power setting. When I pulled the boat out of the water I lowered the motor to drain the salt water out of it and got about a half cup of oil out the propeller. I just replaced the lower unit last year and do not believe their is a problem with it.

The lower unit and oil draining is in no way related to the motor. They are two completly separate units. The g/box is totally self-contained.It sounds more like you have an engine problem. You don't say if the motor is carby or efi(fuel injection). If carby,The carby's are playing up.Be it float levels, stuck needle and seat.A prob. But not a big one.If it's an efi motor it needs to be serviced and so does a carby motor. You don,t have a big prob, just a service one.Hope this helps you

My 175 hp 1998 johnson (carbeurated model) is hard to start. When started it seems to run ok, but after motoring for 10 or so minutes, will just die.

Sounds to me that your carb is plugged up. I would take it apart and clean it. Also make sure your idle mixture screw is set to 1 1/2 turns out to start and adjust from there.

70 hp Johnson hard to start.

could be the choke isn't closed all the way for the first start. Then when warm the motor doesn't need to be choked.

1985 40 hp Johnson outboard wouldnt open up and

sounds like your mix is off and it's fowling the plugs. probably too rich. make sure the level in your carb bowls isn't too high. Really sounds like you should clean and bench set your carbs. Especially if a plug change helps but doesn't last, then it's got to be your fuel mix, or maybe timing.

Outboard motor won't run under load

I have 1969 5hp Johnson. Starts and runs good, but will only push a 14ft row boat slow at low to medium rpm. When at higher rpm the the motor just revs up and the boat slows down to almost nothing just like it has seaweed around prop.Any help would be great.

sorry havent got back got some personal issue going on. So its cycling off. my fist instinct is to check the ribbion cables that go between boards. and most connectors. theres a cable that runs from the back green booard to the front center crt board in the front. this could be a problem. does the set make any noises?
