Do you even see the toshiba logo on boot up ?

  • Anonymous May 13, 2008

If it warranty, send it in for repair.

Tecra are knows for their RAM loose in the compartment (personal experience). Make sure RAM is secure. What I do is to push in the ram with my hand then hold it while I turn it on. If this solved your problem then I recommend you to put something "Thick" in the RAM compartment to "hold in" the RAM securely.

If it's under warranty, send it in for repairs.

They will see the screw has scratches.

My Toshiba Tecra A9 overheats and shuts down

Check to see if the cooling fan is working properly. You should hear it running if you put your ears close when the computer is on. If the fan is working and the cause of overheating is not the fan, then you may have a deffective battery, check to see that the battery can take up charge. If the battery is fine, then you may have a chip inside the computer that is overheating because of internal defect. This job would be best left for experts.

Tecra M4 with blank screen or colors wrong (red instead of black)

THis happened to my Tecra M4 4 times in 4 years. Each time was a motherboard replacement at the tech repair shop. Each time cosint about $600. I have heard of the heating method to reflow the solder but don't know how to do it. Others have paid for the motherboard replacement and modded the GPU fan to constantly run. I may get it fixed once more and try using a laptop cooler to keep it from overheating again. Because it is soldered on to the motherboard, they replace the entire board.

When using ac adapter to my Tecra 8000 the power light is yellow

Try a new battery and if the new battery wont charge then its either going to be a bad ac adaptor or a bad motherboad. If the new battery charges then you'll know that the old battery went bad.

Toshiba notbook tecra s1 model no 831l-1104l -- No Display

If you see a very dim image or black screen or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Battery/configuration/

Hello,

My name is Vikram Kumar Thumu, from India-Hyderabad. I have seen your message on the issue . I would like to provide my suggestions on the issue. I hope that this should work for you and will resolve the issue.

well, the issue seems to be with Battery , it is not working properly any more. or it could be an issue with Battery drivers in PC.

To isolate the issue, I recommend you to try below steps. This will resolve the issue .

Step 1: Connect Battery and Also AC power adapter, try to charge the Battery for around 6 hours. Make sure that notebook is idle for 6 hours, do not try to run any application . Just let notebook be ON for 6 hours with AC power with Battery in, so that battery gets charged up.

Step 2 : Once if you are done with 6 hours of Charge, now disconnect the AC Power. Restart PC and let the PC run on Battery only. Check out how much time PC is able to run on battery. If PC powers ON properly with battery and runs around 40 minutes then it confirms that Battery is fine else if PC do not startup properly or if it works less than around 30 minutes on battery then it confirms that it is an issue with Battery. If found fault with battery then try step 3 process.

Step 3 :  To check Health of Battery

Please open below link in the new Internet Explorer. Copy and Paste the link at the address bar  and then click GO. This will open a web page that titles as " HP Notebook PCs -  Checking the Status of the Battery in Windows XP"

Once if you open web page, please perform the steps that are mentioned in web page as appropriate to your issue. I hope that this should resolve the issue.

If you need any further assistance on the issue, please mail me at [email protected] I'll be glad to help you.
