HOW DO I CHANGE THE BELT ON THE FANTOM® THUNDER® AND FURY®? fantom fury vacuum - a.gif
fantombeltchange2.jpg

  1. Unplug the machine.
  2. From the front of the machine, remove the collection bin.
  3. Facing the back of your vacuum, remove each of the Philips head screws located above each of the rear wheels. (Figure 1)
  4. To remove the base cover, place your thumbs in the two screw holes in the back of the machine. Push forward and up on the screw holes to disengage the 3 cover locking tabs. Put the cover off to one side, and go to the front of the machine. (Figure 2)
  5. Check the drive arm for any black streaks which indicate residual rubber from the last belt. The drive arm is located on the right side of the motor. The easiest way to remove any residual rubber is with some nail polish remover on a rag or with steel wool.
  6. To attach a new belt, remove the brush from the base of the machine by pulling up straight up with two hands.
  7. Take the new belt and hook it over the steel drive arm. Pull back on the belt slightly, to create some tension.
  8. Put the brush inside the belt loop so that the track for the belt is aligned with the belt itself.
  9. Replace the brush by aligning the metal end so the points face downward. (Figure 3)
  10. Rotate the brush by hand to check that the belt is running freely and easily in its designated space between the bristle.
  11. Replace the cover by placing the nose in first. Once in place fasten with the two cover screws and then replace the collection bin.

Most power heads have some screws from the bottom to take out, the the top comes off, then you can get to the belt.

I have a Fantom Fury, and I cannot get the cover off of the motor assembly. Do you have any drawings or schematics that would help me accomplish this?

first need to open two light bulb covers with a screw drive and you will see two small screws. Remove the light bulbs and unscrew two small screws. After that, you can move the cover off.

Fantom Cyclone XT Vacuum Cleaner

Here is the owners manual which goes over some troubleshooting problems.

http://www.fantom.com/fantom/manuals/Cyclone.pdf

At first I would think it was the thermal overload, which is covered in the manual. But I would guess that you have let it sit for 30 minutes to cool down and tried again and the vacuum still didn't work.
I would think you may have one of four problems.
1. Your thermal overload was tripped and is stuck and will need replaced.
2. You have a clog in your vacuum lines or the brush roller is froze, which keeps causing the thermal overload to trip.
3. Your power cord has a short, which would need replaced.
4. Your power switch is bad, which would need replaced.
Out of these 4 possible problems I would say the only one you could fix on your own would be problem #2. Make sure the vacuum is unplugged and take the brush roller off and clean it, make sure it moves free. Check your vacuum lines to make sure you do not have a clog, other wise the motor does not get air flow to cool it down causing the thermal overload to trip. As for problem 1, 3, and 4 I would suggest taking it to a repair shop.
Hope this helps, post back.

Change my belt on a Fantom vacuum model number is f1420gf

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt change on the Fantom is to remove the bottom plate by undoing the screws, clips or levers, then cut off the old belt, remove the brushroll on the pulley side and place the new belt on the pulley side and replace the brushroll. Then use a belt puller or screwdriver with a hook on the end and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line. The replace the bottom plate and you should be fine. The recommended belt change on a vacuum with a flat belt is every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and always use the genuine belts for the Fantom. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
