You should not need to remove the deck or the clutch cable just to change the belt.

  • ensure mower clutch lever is in the off position
  • lift the front of the tractor approx 24 or more inches.
  • lower the mower deck as far as it will go
  • locate & remove the cotter pin from the right (discharge) side mower lift arm where it attaches to the rear of the mower
  • release the lift arm from the mower deck to allow it to drop (it will hang from the other 3 points)
You should now have plenty of clearance to change the belt. Remove the belt from the engine pulley first and replace the new belt on the engine pulley last that will make it easier to change the belt.

How can I remove the mower deck spring

If you don't have your manual, MTD has manual downloads on their web page.
Are you removing or replacing the belt and need to remove tension
on a electric clutch equipped mower? Or are removing the mower and needing to remove the lift assist spring? I need more information.

How do I replace the Blade Clutch Assembly on a Craftsman mower, model 817.288160?

There is one bolt in center of pto clutch. Its best to have an impact to remove this. If you try to remove with a wrench engine will spin. Remove both belts first. Then simply unplug the PTO, Use impact wrench and remove center bolt and gently pry off. Installation is the reverse order.

Replace drive belt lt 1000

look for tag on inside of hood for belt numbers. Or get model number off of tag under seat that starts with a 917. then call the 800 number.
instructions... Remove deck, remove pto pulley/ clutch, lock brake, remove crank pully and belt from crankshaft then remove belt from transmission and idler pulleys. Reassemble in reverse order with new belt ensureing the belt is not snagged on any belt guides and all idler pulleys are free.. ( PS sharpen blades while deck is off and check deck belt)

I need a detailed diagram for replacing the mower deck on my Troy bilt 42" Pon y tractor.

It is the reverse order of cutting deck removal on page 22 of the manual below.

http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/Safety.do?BrandCode=10001&pid=243424&model_num=13WN77KS011&serial_num=TB24HT&filename=769-05435.pdf

If the manual is incorrect go to this site:
http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/public/list.jsp?BrandCode=10001

Enter your model AND serial number and then download the manual. Look for deck removal procedures and then install it in reverse order of removal.

I need a belt diagram for a ranch king king plus also i need to know the size for the main drive belt

Ranch King is a brand name of the manufacturer MTD.

Product manuals with part blow-up diagrams are available from MTD's web site,
http://www.mtdproducts.com/
Models are identified from the model number printed on a label under the mower seat.
The PTO and deck drive belts are shown on one diagram and the transmission drive belt is shown on another. The Form number on my printed Operator's Manual is 770-10526A (22HP, 46in cut) for Hydrostatic 817/818 models.

Parts can be ordered directly from MTD or other distributors on the web.

It is my experience that original brand name MTD belts work best.

The 22HP, 46" mower deck Ranch King Pro has 3 belts:

The drive belt which runs from the engine pulley back to the hydro drive unit to provide over-the-ground propulsion is part #754-0349.

A mower has either an electric PTO or a manual PTO, not both.

The electric PTO belt the provides power to the blade deck (runs around the electric clutch on the engine shaft (activated by electric switch, not the mechanical hand lever that engages the mower deck) is p/n 754-0476 for the 46" deck.

The manual PTO belt the provides power to the blade deck (runs off the pulley on the engine shaft (activated the mechanical hand lever to the left of the steering wheel that engages the mower deck) is p/n 754-0228 for the 46" deck.

The deck belt that goes around the 3 blade spindle assemblies on the mower deck, to drive the grass cutting blades is p/n 754-0349

In my experience, the PTO belt lasts about half a season, the other belts break about every other season when mowing 4 acres weekly.

Honda Harmony II HRR216TDA drive clutch cable snapped. Need advice on how to access transmission box to change cable. Owner's manual does not address this level of repair and schematic obtained from local...

First put the machine on the side with the muffler facing the floor . Right behind the rear wheel you have a 10mm bolt that you have to remove and look for another 2 10mm bolts holding the plate that you remove the first bolt (one should be at the bottom and the other one on the side) .
Slide that plate out of the machine and now you be able to see the belt that goes to the transmission and also the drive clutch cable.
Hope this help .
