My FoodSaver will not activate when I insert a bag. The accessory unit works fine.

It sounds like you are having some issues with your FoodSaver vacuum sealer. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
  1. Make sure that the FoodSaver is plugged in and turned on.
  2. Check the sealing strip on the vacuum sealer to make sure it is clean and free of debris. A dirty or damaged sealing strip can prevent the vacuum sealer from working properly.
  3. Check the vacuum bag to make sure it is properly positioned in the vacuum sealer. The bag should be inserted with the open end facing the sealing strip.
  4. Make sure that the bag is not too full. Overfilling the bag can prevent the vacuum sealer from working properly.
  5. If the problem persists, you may need to take the FoodSaver to a repair center for further diagnosis and repair.

Foodsaver Tilia compact 2 vacume sealer gasket thats round like race track

If your like me and have some great items but that are older now a foodsaver compact 2 is what I have aquired. this perfectly good vacuum sealer has a torn gasket. Although you can get a new one from the manufacture for $3 but by the time it gets to you is $8.57 (for shipping and gasket) you may want to invest in some super glue. Now I only use Gorilla super glue on most of my projects and although it does get hard, it will save you from getting a new gasket. I did order one a new one, just for a back up myself. The gorilla glue super glue will bond the gasket which seams like foam rubber and it will stick together so make sure you have somthing like paper towels and say a post it note handy. i kept the seal in the unit and only pulled out what i needed to do the meld. and no that's not the vulcan meld for those of us trekies, but it is a Vulcanizing meld or seal. I have not worked with super glue in the flexing fasion before so i cant say how long it will hold or if it holds forever. but at least it will work in a jam and until the other part gets here. but for now my air is zapped out of the bags we are vacume sealing for today.11_10_2011_12_12_37_am.jpg11_10_2011_12_12_49_am.jpg

Vacuum doesn't complete before sealing the bag on my FM5330 Food Saver

Odds are it is dirty and the vacuum sensor is plugged. That makes it think the vacuum is complete. So it seals. Check the instructions or a youtube and clean it. You need to use the exact cleaning instructions. Odds are that will fix it.

My Foodsaver V2480 will vacuum the bags, but will not seal. The sealer works manually.

The black foam seals are not doing their job anymore then. You may humidify them with a paper towel for a quick but it won't last. The vacuum sealer is expected to reach a certain level before automatically sealing it.

There is foam replacments available through ebay and amazon.

Why my foos saver is not sealing

I've found with mine I have to hold down firmly on the top while unit is heating the bag to seal it. I continue to hold the lid down for about 10 seconds after heating stops until the seal cools. Hope this helps.

Loud noise when sealing

I really would follow the first answer given by Lee Eismann, after trying the following. GO for It !

I have had the experience when having Bag Stock sit for awhile. Sealing sometimes takes longer. Often too long. You may want to seal the sides again if the space permits. I always split seal the bottom and top of the bag. But, here is the thing. When the bags are new or old. We have found even after cleaning and gasket dry prep. Extra assistance is the key. After time the lid and droor seal loses elasticity and fluid compaction due to use.

If you get a stubborn situation. Or more. Simply place the palms of both hands with equal pressure from the top outsides towards the center on these style of sealers. That seal that will not, will, and can save you frustration and more unwanted investment.

When the cool fixes are not available . Go with this this one. A Clean Machine with the ring seal is this products cornerstone key. One last tip. Leave at least 4 inches from the center of the vacuum tray to the goods. That is when figuring the over all of the bag. You will nail it shut when the vacuum cranks. Hold until the seal goes out. And double up. You are now; Good, to go.

I have almost all the models. The inexpensive one's work great. So TLC. A touch of tender loving care. Gets you in a happy. Fare Well.

My Foodsaver Vac 1050 doesn't extract all of the air from the bag

Either the sealing strips are dirty letting air escape or the lips of the bag are turned upwards. Push the front of the bag down towards the bottm chanel and it should work fine. I have had one for eight years now and love it.Ken Vancouver BC
