< Control panel > < sound audio device property> look for audio folder tab open look at sound recording.
If there is a mic it will be lighted if not it will be gray

Usually if there is a built in camera there is a place close to it that has a mic

My laptop has developed a high piched squeal if the volume wheel is turned up too high

If you have a built-in microphone, turn the mic volume down (right click the speaker icon on the bottom right of the taskbar, click "open volume control" then turn down the mic volume or mute it.

You'll need to download the driver for your microphone.
After you've tried that then there's something wrong with it.

How do i determine if my computer has a builtin microphone

check your computers device list. If you have a PC then go to your desktop and right click on "My Computer" select Manage. within the list that comes up, select devices and see if you have anything listed in the right frame for a mic under audio.

if the webcam has builtin microphone you must plug in at rear in the red connector
To verify if your webcam has microphone do this:
When you plugged in usb the webcam, also it shoul be a red cable (this is the microphone)

If not, you must buy a microphone

How to activate my builtin mocrophone

Dear

to activate builtin microphone do following step:-

1- double click on volume icon (right side down of ur desktop), Playback control window open.

2- In playback control window click on options>properties.

3- In properties windows u see "adjust volume for" area , here click on "recording".

4- while click on "recording" down u will see option for ur recording devices (Line In, Microphone,S/PDIF in etc ) select on microphone and click ok.

5- now u will see " Recording Control " window here select microphone and adjust volume for microphone

Ok now u will turn on ur Microphone Try to chat with anyone to ensure ur microphone is working.
