Power down my toshiba satelite notebook will not stay powered on even if its plugged up.i turn it on it wont stay on

  • bobobenito Jan 15, 2009

Wow... looks like a real epidemic. I've replaced 3 batteries, new powerpack, and now it won't power up although the front blue light shows the plug is in - and hot. I've pulled my whole entire laptop to absolute pieces because I've heard something rattling inside. (I had a Dell one time which had a screw rolling around which got caught up in a nasty place - I wanted to double check that wasn't happening again.)

Anyway, I was interested in looking in the spot where the plug inserts into the laptop and it appears fine to me but I suppose it could be bad. I guess that's what I'll try next. What a pain! I'll never purchase a Toshiba again. Stick with Dell !!!!!!!

I know the original post is over 2 years old but I had the same problem. Here's what happened:

8 months after buying my Toshiba A135 the battery began charging only intermittently. It also would not run without the battery. I put up with it for a month then took it back to Best Buy to get it repaired under warranty. They kept it over 2 weeks then gave it back saying it was the battery, which they replaced. One week later I had the same problem again. Back to Best Buy. The guy at the counter said it was probably the battery, they had encountered a lot of that. I said no, explained it, and gave it over to be fixed. 2 weeks later I got it back. They had reset the BIOS, no hardware replacement. I got it home and it was not fixed. I took it back the next day. They kept it 2 more weeks. They replaced the motherboard. I took it home and...you guessed it the same problem on the day I got it home!!! I took it back with one week left on my warranty. I don't remember what they replaced the last time but I think it was the motherboard again. I got it home (2 weeks later) and THE SAME PROBLEM on the day I got it home. So, the lesson there is that Best Buy computer maintenance SUCKS!!

I called Toshiba to try to get them to fix it for free, and out of warranty. After several frustrating minutes of conversation with an accented person who just kept telling me that my warranty was up, I hung up and called back and got an English speaking person. SHE was very helpful, listened to my problem, agreed to give me a one-time fix ticket. They paid for the postage. When I got my computer back it was mostly fixed.

The problem was the module at the back of the computer where the power cord plugs in. It was defective. They replaced it and it worked fine after that, except that when it goes into sleep mode it will not wake up. I fixed that by turning off all the sleep mode options. BTW, a friend of mine with the same computer is now having the same problem.

Laptop wont power on

If the laptop wont power on..I suggest to bring it to the nearest service center for them to fix the problem. Possible replacement of some parts.. If the laptop still under warranty, they can replace the defective parts, if there is, with no charge or they can even replace your laptop with a new one, if its a unit with manufacturing defect.

Pull out the battery and the power plug. Then plug back in the power plug. Attempt to start your laptop. If it starts then the battery is the issue. If not the hardware has failed and you need to contact Toshiba for warranty support or a local tech if it is outside of warranty. -Ravi Shanghavi

My A215 wont stay powered up. It shut down and

Try running the computer on the Battery power and check if the power sustains. If not, then disconnect the power cord and remove the battery and leave it for a few hours then try turning it on.

If the problem exists then the power supply unit is required to be replaced. You may contact service center to get the power supply unit replaced.

Will not turn on, no lights at all

Try to remove the battery, and plug it into the wall. If it then boots, your battery has failed. This happens frequently. If it still wont boot you will need to take to someone to see if the board has died or other issues. Hope this helps
