Ice at the bottom of the freezer

The bottom of my freezer compartment is building up ice. I used a blow dryer to clean it up once but it came back. On opening the back panel I noticed that the drain line was iced up too. I cleared up the drain a couple day ago but the ice has come back. Is this the beginning of the Adaptive control unit problem?

    I've also been experiencing the same problems with my MSD2756GES - excessive ice build-up on the bottom of the freezer to the point where the bottom basket is frozen in place. From time to time, the refrig. seems like it's trying to correct the problem, some of the ice melts out through the door gasket and onto the floor with no real improvement - ice continues to build-up. To make matters worse, I just received a letter from Maytag stating that my refrigerator model is part of a recall of 1.6million refrigerators due to possible overheating of compressor causing fire. Maytag has contracted an authorized repair agent to visit my home in a week to make recall repairs. Have experienced nothing but problems with the refrig. since I purchased my home 18 months ago. Also experiencing problems with buttons that select between crushed ice and cubed ice and lighting inside refrig. Maytag claims no responsibility as I've tried to get them to be responsible for problems. Any help/direction would be appreciated...

Bottom of rezzer compartment is supposed to be frozen( depending on timeof cycle) i wouldnt point to a defrost problem unitil the ice build up is hindering refigeration, its quite possible that thte defrost drain has just frozen itself over, and needs to be cleared to allow defrost water to go into the drip pan under unit

Whirlpool french door refrigerator evaporator freezes about every 6 or 7 months

First, I'm not a Whirlpool representative.
* Check your warranty. Call for support;
* Contact;https://www.whirlpool.com/owners.html

*** The following is for information only.***
* Original question was slow ice making or melted ice;:
* Most common is ice build up in freezer coils. This happens every time the door is opened. Ice builds up on coils but is normally removed during a daily defrost cycle.
* The cycle may be unable to defrost all ice due to bad air circulation. Usually caused by rubbish blocking fan intake (bottom of freezer tray or wall.) Overloading food may cover the intake.
* Remove all food from freezer. Check for fan blockage. There should be a steady flow of cold air. If not then your freezer needs to be defrosted.
* Defrost by moving all frozen food to fridge side or cooler. Unplug fridge and open freezer door (drawer). Allow room air to circulate into the freezer. Use a house fan to blow air into freezer. (DO NOT use Hair dryer! It will damage panels.)
* Check and remove melted ice water. Check inner panels of freezer. Once defrosted the panels will be room temperature to the touch. There should not be any condensation or coldness to the panel. If it's still cold then keep defrosting.
* Once the water stops dripping. then close freezer doors.
* plug in freezer and wait 5 mins. Check freezer if inside is cold and the air is blowing cold. Reload freezer with food, take care not to overload or cover fan intake. Monitor for 2 days.

Frig & freezer not cooling enough. Ice forming in back of bottom freezer.

You need to have the defrost cycle checked.( heater, limit stat, timer) If the frig can't defrost air can't move across your coils to cool properly. To temporarily get by until you can get a repairman, use a blow dryer to melt the ice build up. Once melted it will work normally for about 2 days till it freezes up again.

Ice build up in bottom of freezer

under the coils in the freezer compartment there is a tube that lead the water to the compressor pan to dry.
in your case it is seal with ice / mold / dirt.
you will need a hair dryer / steamer to clean it, what you need to do it is to open the freezer back wall to reach for the coils and you will see the ice build up on the bottom, when you clear all the ice you will find the pip hole that should drain the water.
clear it all and you good.

Whirlpool refrigerator (top freezer) is leaking into bottom of fridge. What can it be?

Hi, read about your problem. What's happening is your drain in the freezer compartment in the back behind wall is plugged. Defrost water then builds up under freezer floor and freezes. To fix, remove back wall. Also the floor needs to be opened up. Use a blow dryer to clear ice out of drain, in the trough, and under the floor. Hope this helps

I have a GE profile performer fridge ,with freezer on bottom there is water and ice build up at back of compartment, almost looks like a drain usually leaks out on floor in front of freezer compartment.

drain is frozen up. unplug and leave bottom door open for 24 hours and may be ok. Only alternative is to remove the bottom of the fresh food section and de-ice with blow dryer. If it does it again then the Styrofoam between frig and freezer must be replaced.

My frig is running but not cooling - frig is 50 degrees,freezer 40 degrees, cleaned the coils,etc GE side by side coils in bottom if frig side feel cool, "box" between freezer and frig side is not blowing...

I can help you diagnose the problems with your GE. Several things can cause these symptoms. All you need is a voltage meter patience and a want to, to repair and do it better than a paid technician. In most cases with the PSS26MSRSS the defrost heater is the cause for this. Look into rear of your freezer and back wall. Is Ice or frost building on rear wall? If yes unplug and prepair to remove contents in freezer compartment. Remove rear panel in freezer and use hair dryer to defrost ice until the defrost heater is visible. BRB , Sea Breeze

Ice builds up at the bottom of the freezer compartment. This also causes water to leak out the bottom of the unit. we have had multiple service calls but the problem persists. Any suggestions would be...

The defrost drain line is frozen closed and has not been properly cleared and cleaned.
The drain line is found at the back wall of the freezer. You will have to turn off the refrigerator. Break up any ice especially in the drain trough at the lower back inside the freezer. Use a hair dryer to thaw out the drain hole. Pour 1 cup bleach in the drain hole once it is thawed out.

I have a roper model RT14ZKXDWOO and the freezer is working fine but the refrig is warm. I took the panel off the back of the freezer and it is full of ice. What should i do next? and is there a diagram...

Hi,maybe I can shed a little light.I don`t know where the defrost timer is,but I would melt the ice with a hair dryer and real warm water(it will make a mess so be ready).There will be a drain inside of the freezer compartment,on the inside.Some how the rear panel inside the freezer compartment comes out.You may have to take apart the whole inside of the freezer compartment just to remove this rear panel.But when you do look for ice build up on bottom of freezing unit,and the rearof the freezer compartment.Melt this ice the same way earlier described.You will find a drain that starts inside the bottom-rear of the freezer compartment.This drain goes all the way down to the bottom of the fridge.You will find a very shallow drip pan under the fridge.This pan will most of the time only receive a little amount of water at a time and evaporates quickly.Now while you thaw this drain,water will start draining threw the drain,if it is not stoped up with food particles and such.This would be a good tome to blow threw this ine from the bottom where it drains into the pan underneth the fridge.Then blow threw it at the top in the freezer compartment.You can use a air tank with a blow gun.Be sure to pour water threw and down this drain to wash out all particles left behind.Clean the freezer compartment out good(the particles of food and such) and reassemble the freezing unit.plug fridge back up and set the freezer control to a respectfull setting(not the coldest and not real cold)and set the frideration to a decent setting for food preservation. Let the fridge and freezer run 12 to 24 hours to see if your problem comes back,and then time will tell if your defrost timer is bad,or is working like it should.When the drain clogs,it starts freezing away from the defrost elements and continues freezing the blocked water untill it overtakes the coils .The defrost and the timer don`t stay on long enough,or hot enough to overcome the ice.This is the reason you should try this solution first.If I can help you anymore,let me know [email protected] /let me know how it turns out

Freezer works, frig does not. Also ice build up in freezer coil

I just worked on a FF801W which is supposed to be very similar. The defrost heater in mine was of the glass tube type and located under the evaporator. There was a bimetal thermostat clipped to the top of the evaporator and a thermal fuse (sealed in a clear plastic tube) nearby. The connections were behind a little plastic cover (2 screws) in the back wall just above the evaporator.

Mine was iced up like yours and I had to defrost it with a hair dryer. All the defrosting parts in the freezer compartment turned out to work so I now suspect the defrost timer (down by the compressor). I've marked it and I'm waiting to see if it's turning.
