My HDN455E dehumidifier stopped working the other night. When I turn the knob to "on", it makes a clicking noise, but does not turn on. The plug works fine, there is no water in the bucket, and I've cleaned the filter. What could be causing this?

My dehumidifier doesn't stop even if you turn the knob down to zero

Turn the knob the other way - you are most likely setting the target humidity closer to zero, which would cause it to run more (or constantly).

At a higher target humidity it will run less. You should hear a distinct click as you turn it higher - that is the current humidity in the room, and the compressor will shut off. The fan may run a little while longer, but should shut off as well in a few minutes.

Good luck and please rate this answer 4 stars if helpful.

My Santa Fe compact dehumidifier in my crawlspace makes a noise (not a smooth humming sound but more of a harsh vibrating sound) when it is not dehumidifying. I can turn the knob to the dryest setting and...

The black cylinder is the compressor. It sounds like your unit is cycling the compressor for some reason. If the compressor starts, runs fine, and removes water when you set the humidity control to the driest setting the compressor is probably OK and the problem may be with the humidity control causing the dehumidifier to "short cycle" for some reason. You may need to change the humidity control or relocate the dehumidifier in your crawl space.
If the compressor attempts to start, and then sits quiet for 10 minutes, and then attempts to start again, you have a problem with the dehumidifier. There are a few things that can cause this problem:
Low refrigerant charge
Bad compressor capacitor
Bad compressor overload
Plugged capillary tube or broken expansion valve
are the common causes of this behavior. If you suspect one of these problems, call the factory service department at 1-800-533-7533 for help.

Good luck with your dehumidiifer.

My DeLonghi Portable Dehumidifier Model DEM10 has stopped working. It doesn't make the same noise when you turn it on anymore i.e the slight refridgerator sound. Does this sound like a repairable problem...

Hello,

First, make sure the reservoir is empty. If you plug the unit in and see a green power light, but the unit won't run, make sure the reservoir is properly inserted. Many dehumidifiers have switches or sensors to make sure that the reservoir is placed so that it won't leak. Look for these sensors and make sure the reservoir is engaging them. If your dehumidifier has a float or switch to indicate a full reservoir, make sure this switch isn't being tripped accidentally.

Good luck.

Zenith ZD30 dehumidifier - 1 1/2 years old stopped working had a half bucket oc colledted water in bucket when it stopped. I checked the fuse on the circuit board and have continuity.

Unplug from wall. Take the front cover off and disconnect the 2 wires that attach to the humidity control dial. Plug back in. If it works, the problem is the humidty control dial (mine just went bad). With it unhooked, it will run constantly, but will still turn off when the bucket is full. To turn off, simply unplug.
