Sometimes they 'crash' in sleep mode. Try hold the power button down for 10 seconds. This should make it reset. After the 10 seconds, release the power button. Then press it again to turn it on normally.
you are cold booting the pc always shut down normally when you shut down just useing button it will eventually corrupt the system I have several computers and never shut them off at all unless installing new hardware if you get a keyboard with the specific button just for the sleep mode this problem will clear up but if you shut down normal it will work rite
If you use Windows 7, u might have hybrid sleep activated. This is similar to hibernate. When u choose SLEEP, your computer goes to hibernate. Sometimes this hibernate just hangs. You have to reboot computer. Try pressing the power button for several seconds (10-15). It should power off the laptop. If not, unplug the charger and remove the battery for a few minutes. Then try to start it up again.
You're most likely trapped in sleep mode.
This can happen when the mac runs out of power in sleep mode.
Simply hold the power button down for 10 seconds, then press again to boot up as normal.

Instead of sleep mode, tyr hibernate. It is generally faster except the whole computer shuts down. When you power back up, you're exactly where you were. Mine takes about 30 seconds.

To disable the sleep button on the acer keyboard Do the following (Vista home)
Go to control panel (classic view) double click Power options.
left hand margin select Choose what the power buttons do.
This opens a systems settings page
You will see an option :
When I press the sleep button: (Don't worry that the picture of the button is different than the keyboard's Zz)
Select Do Nothing from the dropdown box.
Click the Save changes button at the bottom of the screen.
If u use Windows OS go in control panel - performance and maintenance - power options, and u'll find there the settings for shut down/stand by/hibernate ...etc
U probably don't have to press the ON button, but the sleep button to come up from that state (probably Fn buton and sleep button (it has to have a pictogram on it ....))
