The wireless network security settings on laptop do not match settings on router?

Hello.
- This error occurs when the wireless security that you set on the wireless laptop does not match the wireless security on the router.
  • If the wireless router's security setting is WPA but on the laptop you used WEP for the wireless security, that's when a mismatch occurs.

- What you can do to resolve the problem is to delete the wireless profile you created on the laptop. After that, let the laptop search for wireless connection available, select the correct wireless settings and it should connect.
--For example the operating system of your computer is Vista, in order to remove the wireless profile you created and reconnect to the wireless router, do the following instructions:- Go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet> Network and Sharing Center- Click on Manage Wireless Networks on the left panel. Delete the wireless profile then Search for available wireless networks again. Type the correct wireless security settings on your laptop
-- If you would like to know what wireless security has been setup on the router, connect the laptop or use a desktop which is wired to the router then access the router setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser and then press Enter. Enter admin for the router user name and your password (or the default, password).

11_26_2011_10_21_15_am.png

--After logging in. In the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the wireless security or you can setup wireless security from there if you haven't done so.

Securing router from outside user.

Set wireless security to one of the options available. Also, set the router system ID, and change router login password, (record it somewhere, like on the actual router) change the wireless channel to 11 to avoid conflict with landline wireless handsets.
There are higher security settings, but wireless access password is pretty effective.

Laptop keeps asking for security key, when trying to connect wirelessly . i dont know security key

You need to ask whoever set up the wireless router what the security key is. Apparently, who ever setup the router encrypted the wireless network. Any computer wanting access to the wireless network must have the security key initially entered in for access. If it is your own router, you can access the router and change the security key your self in the wireless setup portion.

Connecting a laptop.

on connecting your laptop wirelessly, it is best if you set the router to have wireless security first.

accessing the router's setup page:

open IE, then type http://192.168.1.1 on your address bar, it will ask you for a username and password, thats both admin (these steps will depend if you have changed the settings on the router)

once opened, go to the wireless tab, change your Wireless Network Name (SSID) to something esle instead of Linskys, like your name perhaps. then set the channel to 11ghz and hit save settings.

now look for a Wireless Security SUBTAB, enable to wireless security, under security mode select WPA-Personal (PSK) set your algorithm to TKIP and make up a password on the blank space that says Passphrase / Pre Shared Key , that will be you wireless security code. now hit save settings.

in connecting your wireless laptop, make sure the wireless adapter on the device is enabled and it will automatically locate the wireless network and wil ask you for the security code, once you place it, you will get connection.
