I have an Samsung RB1855SL refrigerator.(fridge up top freezer lower) I came home after being away and the fridge and freezer had stopped working. I unplugged it for an hour or so while i cleaned out everything. then when i plugged it back in it seems to be working for now. what could have been the problem and how do i prevent it from happening again?

SOURCE: freezer stopped working

Solomonau, it's hard to tell without being there exactly what is going on. I do know however, that in April of 2005 Samsung came out with a bullitin regarding the cap tube. It states that it has been inserted into the dryer incorrectly and can cause no cool situations. This is part of the sealed system which should be covered for 5 years. What you are describing sounds like a partial restriction, which could be taking place in that dryer and cap tube. If you were to post your model number, I would be able to tell if yours was included in this bullitin. You can then contact Samsung and inquire about this service bullitin, Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: FRIDGE/FREEZER MODEL: SR42NMB Multi Frost

You have a clogged defrost drain tube. best way is to thaw unit out. Your vents are being blocked so no air flow is pushed down.

SOURCE: Samsung RS2556 - Refrigerator side is not cooling - Freezer is fine

Ok, what I found out is that there are codes built into the front panel. If you hold the top left and right buttons for 5 seconds, the fridge will reset. If there are no issues, the panel goes blank. If there is a dash in the right side of the panel, there is an issue with the fridge side. In the left, freezer side. The dash indicates a defrost problem. Only a couple of things can cause this. 1. Sensor 2. Heater 3. Fan, 4. control board.

Da99 samsung fridge freezer

As for freezer, lower the letter and allow 24 hours for temp to adjust. Lower again and wait, until desired temp achieved.

Do the same thing for refrigerator. If freezing not working most efficiently, this can and usually does affect the refrigerator.

the freezer should be arond -20 degrees celcius and the fridge aroud 5 degrees celcius
There could be a problem with air flow
the fan in the freezer has probably stopped or the air flow into the fridge is probably blocked
You could have a defrost problem. this would allow ice to build up in the freezer blocking off ai flow.
A technician can help you with that

There is a good chance that your refrigerator has frozen up from the door being left open.

The best and easiest thing to do is to unplug the refrigerator and prop the doors open for 24 hours to melt any ice build-up that may have occurred and then restart the refrigerator.

If the refrigerator still fails to pull down to proper temp, then you will need to dig deeper to find the problem.

All of a sudden stopped getting cold in the fridge portion, freezer is fine

If you completely defrost the freezer and restart the unit and it doesn't get cold in the refrig portion it could be the internal fan that moves cold air from the freezer to the frig area if it does get cold after an hour or so then it is probably the defrost coil needs replacing. I am not familar with your exact model but this senario applies to many different units.

Samsung RB1855SW won't stop beeping and fridge malfunctioning

Thanks so much for the advice. I just gently pried the door sensor switch on my Samsung RB1855SL out with a butter knife and then pulled out the electrical connection and it fired up right away. It looks like some orange juice seeped in and corroded it. What a relief to have the fridge working again, not to mention to not have to listen to the beeping.

Loud noise from the freezer side

The problem is a buildup of ice on the plastic housing (the curved plastic bit) in the back of the freezer under the fixed shelf where the icetub goes. The fan behind this plastic housing is hitting the ice when the defrost comes on.

Unplug the fridge, unpack the freezer, remove the four screws in the back, take off the sheetmetal backing and let the fridge thaw. You can remove the plastic piece after a while and get the ice off (be careful not to remove the styrofoam insulation by going too quickly).

Reassemble and you're back in business, for a few months. I'm never buying Samsung again myself.

Refrigerator temperature can't be set to cold - sensor light shows 9C and keeps on beeping. Samsung model RB1855SL

I had this exact problem with my 4 yr old Samsung RB1855SL refrigerator. BTW, the temperature display doesn’t display higher than 9C, even when its warmer inside. The fan wasn’t turning on to circulate the cold air, although the cooling coils were still cooling. There was no excess ice build-up. The freezer was working fine.

I thought perhaps the fan was toast or the temperature sensor. Then I noticed the interior fridge light was not turning off when closing the door (but the freezer light was). BINGO—thig light switch was the problem. A small piece on the inside of the fridge side of the switch was broken. When the door was closed, the broken switch didn’t let the fridge know that the door was in fact closed, causing the door alarm to keep beeping. This must shut the fan down in order to save energy when regularly opening the door.

DIY fix: I removed the switch (until I could get a replacement) which is located to the left of the lower door hinge (right hand side). Gently, with a flat nose screw driver, I pried it out.

The light no longer turned on when opening either door but that was a small price to pay compared to the incessant beeping and rotten food. The part can’t be very expensive and I can replace it myself. The local appliance repair shop will order it for me.

No expensive “internal brain” needed to be replaced or an expensive repairman needed to be called. Good luck!
