Netgear DG834G router dropping internet connection

Hi i have a netgear DG834G router supplied by my isp Its been fine for three years now it keeps intermittantly dropping the internet connection. The green power light internet light and wireless light are all and remain on, however the pages won't load. It is obviously working just now I am using it to send this, it can stop at anytime. It stopped working about an hour ago for the hundreth time this week, I disconnected the power and left it for thirty minutes then reconnected the power and it started working again, this does not always work though. I hope someone may have a solution to this. Thanks.

You could try a firmware update, if this is no better it may be time to ask your ISP for new router.

As a little aside, i read this week about router antennas. it was saying that you can get problems connecting if you are too close to the router, and the angle of the antenna are set wrong, If you have 1 antenna, try it at a 45 degree angle and not just vertical, if you have 2 set them at 90 degrees from each other in a V

This was in the Micro Mart magazine

I received a new router a DG834G from my ISP it has helped but i am still having problems about once every two days. I am going to tough it out for another ten days as apparently it can take a few days for the router to learn about the line. It has been raining very heavily here for the last month or so and i think this may be contributing. Thanks for your help.

I have just changed from a Netgear DG834G V4 to a Netgear N150 (Supplied by Orange) Router and the signal is now virtually non existant in parts of the house (upstairs and further away downstairs rooms)...

Netgears products are terrible with non support what so ever. I'm sure you had change your router already, but if your ISP could provide you with a different brand, the problem will disappear.

Cant get netgear to work

Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer and in the address bar type 192.168.0.1 and hit the Enter or Return key. This should take you to the routers internal User's Interface where you will be able to enter your ISP information.

Netgear WGR614 v6 router drops connection

Hi, what ISP are you using (aol,tiscali...?), and how are you connecting to the router? Wired or wireless? I had similar problems with mine, it wouldn't connect or would drop connection, or loose all the settings. I updated the firmware to the latest from here:-
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WGR614v6.asp

Be sure this is the correct model as firmware differes from model to model.
Then I had to manually configure my ISP settings etc. Or you may have software from your ISP which configures for you.
Hope this helps.

No dsl/ internet lights

Contact your ISP. There are some companies that deactivate your internet connection after inactivity for a period of time. They have to reset the D-Slam.
They will also have you power cycle your modem.

Can't get internet access through NetGear DG834G Router

You have to configure your router...

If your ISP provided you with IP Address, enter the assigned IP address, subnet mask, gateway IP address anbd DNS IP address for your broadband router.

If you connect to the Internet using an xDSL Modem and your ISP has provided you with a Password and a Service Name, then your ISP uses PPPoE to establish a connection. You must enter the required information.

Hope this could help..

NetGear Wireless Router - continous internet connection drops

Hi sharon,

If you  upgraded the software but still the connecitons is droping then contact the ISP (the internet service provider ), Because it is possible that they have something wrong thier side,,,THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN AS INTERMITTENT SYNC OR ROUTE,,, check the lights on your router , when the internet goes down which light changes,,,

and once you confirm that the problem is not with your ISP then you need to purchase a new router,

reply which is the ISP you are subscribing for.
