Cleaning the condensor lowers the head pressure to normal range.
The compressor may rattle internaly when started or stopped or shook. The compressor position may have been disturbed so that it makes noise every time, or the suspension springs inside is fatigued.
The fan may have some debris that may also cause noise at start up or when stopping. I would visual inspect the fan, condensor, and compressor and if it all looks ok, then just let the refrigerator do it's work. Fan blades can bend easily and when bent they go out of balance and vibrate when started, stopped, or continuously.
You did the right thing by cleaning the coil under the refrigerator, just make sure any movement needed by the parts have enough clearance and are in place where they supposed to be.
I believe a 10 yrs life from a machine is average.
the compressor that pumps up the air suspension does make a horrid noise, and if you can turn it off, like I could in my crown vic, just long enough to see if that is indeed the compressor making the noise you hear, then try that. My switch was located in the trunk.
Compressors usually make a thrumming/humming noise, so yes, this sounds like the fan. It could be something touching the fan blades, like ice or a wire. If you can unplug the fridge and remove panels near the fan, you may discover the problem.
You amy ahave a bvad capacitor on the outside unit. It starts the fan and the compressor. You can change this yourself. Open the outside panel and you will see a silver canister with terminals out the top. Replace this and I think your problem will go away. On the cap. it will say something like 30uf 5uf 370 ot 440 Just get these numbers and get a new one. Russ
It is the Freezer Fan, he ice maker fan. I experienced the same conditions of a two year period. The tech allows said either unplug overnight. I as you couldn't take the noise. Oh by the way it will be getting worse!!! The solution replace the Freezer Fan motor.it cost about $78.00 plus shipping. they are located behind the freezer rear wall. They are very labor intensive to replace because the electrical leads are attached just out of reach. I have a 33" arm and I had to act like a contortionist to unplug them.
The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze
Does it make the noise all of the time or just periodically? Does the outdoor fan run when it is making the noise. If the fan isn't running and the compressor is noisy at that time likely it is in defrost mode which is normal.
You said, The warranty
just ran out, Sears came out told me needs a control board ($210 for
just labor to replace) not sure about part price. I though a new
freezer is about twice his labor and parts, so I sent him away minus
$65.
I did some troubleshooting
today, pull the plug for 2 days. Plug it in, temp alarm goes on all the
time. Turn alarm off, left the freezer running for 4hrs.
Not cold at all, some cool air. Fan is on, compressor is on (can hear
humming noise and is vibrating). Compressor is very hot to the touch,
could burn finger.
Should I call Sears again, wonder how much to fix all the problem? Or
just give up, look for another brand new one (not Kenmore).
MY ADVICE: Sounds like a big repair bill and multiple problems
How old is the appliance?
If the appliance is 10 years old or more you may not be advisable to put good money into bad! New appliance are so much more efficient today that they can save you a lot of money in energy!!!! Replace it.
You will be fine
