The themostat could be stuck open, the defrost timer could be stuck in defrost or the compressor start relay/overload could be bad. All are worth fixing.
Bump the thermostat with the heal of your hand. If the fridge starts, the termostat is bad. The defrost timer is in the same housing as the thermostat. There is a dime sized hole in the bottom of the housing that will show a white or black "screw". Use a screwdriver to turn it 1/4 turn. If the fridge starts, timer is bad. You need a tech for the relay/overload.
